I may not be a sound designer by trade anymore, but old habits die hard.

Playing a lot of Virtua Fighter recently, and I wanted to have a go at recreating their traditional kung-fu movie type impact sounds in an effort to combat the 'phantom limb' syndrome I'm feeling with my previous life.

This year I was forcefully ejected from my career. Despite how that sounds, life has worked out pretty well since (after a prolonged period of existential dread, naturally).

Looking forward to exploring my new direction in more depth in 2025!

I've just uploaded a short video demonstrating a fairly common technique for creating creature vocals. You might be interested in my thought processes on it and my particular strategy.

Playing and enjoying the Soul Reaver remasters. What has stuck me the most is how much that opening cutscene reflects my journey in the last year. It captures the anguish and renewed determination so well!

Seeing the ProQ 4 buzz is giving me some mixed emotions. After the initial "Oooh!" I remember audio not my job anymore and it feels super fucking weird.

Ditto for the avalanche of black Friday plugin deals. Unpicking all this when it has been your entire professional life is hard to process.

The Burning Rangers soundtrack CD set is out now in Japan, but could it lead to something more for the IP? The director of the Saturn game seemed to suggest there's a possibility:

Welcome to all my new followers here!

Just an FYI so we are starting on the right foot - I am no longer either game or audio, so if that's what you're here for your princess is in another castle.

A redesign of some boss footage from a Sonic X Shadow Generations trailer.

This is my first redesign in a while. Hard to stay motivated in the face of continual rejections and the looming end of my career in audio and video games.

After completing a code bootcamp, my initial goal was to delve deeper into Javascript.

However old habits die hard, so I followed a tutorial to make this small game instead of something useful!

You ever have one of those weeks /days where EVERYTHING is happening at once?

I'm having one of those now, and my brain is leaking out of my ears trying to keep up with it all. Workmen, job applications, interviews, tests, voluntary work, events, & a lil personal project as the cherry on top!

So my two biggest post-redundancy activities have drawn to a close this week.

I completed a code bootcamp and finished my first run of shows as an audio tech for the local theatre production of Blackadder II.

Had a fantastic time with both groups, and met many wonderful people!

I am in this group. Single parent, on benefits, moving almost yearly as bailiffs found our new house.

Stupidly, I chose not just an elitist industry, but also the most expensive niche.

Having been just made redundant, the cost to get even a basic home setup to standard has been eye watering.
A staggering report about class in the UK games industry - just 13% are "from lower socioeconomic backgrounds", making it "roughly a third less inclusive than the wider country".

This is compared to 29% in film/TV, 32% in design/fashion, and 22% in music.
