Web developer & writer. I really, *really* like blogs. Big fan of RSS feeds.

Creator of https://powrss.com and https://lettrss.com
I’m starting The Wonderful Wizard of Oz tomorrow 😁

I’ll be reading it from my #RSS reader via Lettrss, a project I built to syndicate public domain #books via RSS.

If you sent me one chapter a day of a book to my RSS reader, I'm sure I'd read it all.

I'll be putting this to the test with Lettrss, a project I built to syndicate public domain books via RSS.

Since Wicked is coming out soon, I'm starting with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

In this blog post I write a response to a surprising analogy I read in an essay by an American professor of philosophy.

He compares women to AI to claim artists have no legitimate complaint if an AI trains on their work.

Investing in #RSS

"The act of spending that time in those feeds still feels like a very deliberate, intentional act. Curating a set of feeds I find interesting and making the time to read them feels like an investment in myself."

It’s freeing to think about returning to a site built in Notepad as a more direct expression.

"I’ve been thinking a lot about the internet lately, like as a concept. I don’t know where everyone went...
When the algorithms are determining everything we should be seeing, it’s a much less personal internet"

In response I made powrss.com to rediscover the personal web.

It is now easier than ever to discover new #blogs across the #indieweb with the #powRSS Blogs section.

36 new blogs were added in the past week. Welcome :-)

The best parts of the internet were never viral, they were personal.

If you have a blog please consider adding it to powRSS to make those corners visible again.

It seems so rude and careless to make me, a person with thoughts, ideas, humor, contradictions and life experience to read something spit out by the equivalent of a lexical bingo machine because you were too lazy to write it yourself.

The Blogging Years a Rumination by Darice.

"I followed tons of personal blogs, people who wrote about regular life stuff, music, books, the web. I blogged too back then, I have like 500 old posts set on private...

The blog years were awesome, I still miss the old internet."

let’s all go back to using rss feeds

There's a few of us (currently 200+ blogs indexed) over on powRSS. You're welcome to check it out! There's a lot of stuff like this under the Indieweb umbrella :-)
Coming back to this for a moment.
I keep thinking about how awful the owners of all these social media sites are, & how nifty it would be if more of us went back to having our own little bloggy blogs & RSS feeds.

A sort of web anarchy.

Also, bring back letter-writing & pen pals.
I built my blog from scratch using old school Notepad + GitHub. It was fun! But it sucks that robots.txt no longer protects sites from bots.

Bluesky friends,

I’ve updated powRSS to sport more of a retro look and added a few new features to make discovering independent blogs easier and more fun.

I’d love it if you took a look 😁
