In other news I’ve been finding a lot of weird worms and other critters in SE Asia! My bug-finding eye has improved so much since I was here last that I take literally all day to finish walking a trail, so much to see. Many good and bad photos to come!

Over the next 6 months, iNaturalist will be participating in the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI program to help build tools to improve the identification experience on iNaturalist. Learn more: www.inaturalist.org/blog/113184-...

If you are a user of iNat, this project may well improve your user experience. If you are a taxonomist, it may decrease your incentive to participate.

These are not concerns. They are justified and correct criticisms of a Very Bad Idea.
We know there have been lots of thoughtful questions and concerns (both here and on other platforms) shared about our participation in this program and about how we’ll be using GenAI, and we hope that the blog post above helps answer some of them.
