But every now and then I forget it's out there, and turn my head, and make eye contact with the damn sun, and then I see spots for 15m.

Some percentage of people are dicks! Dicks on bikes, however, pose a far smaller danger to other people than dicks in cars. Even if your entire worldview revolves around reducing dickishness you should favor more cycling!

Honestly a lot of car drivers are rude and the cyclist isn't piloting a 3-5000 LB death machine that can match the power output of some hundreds of horses
