I have an interesting concept to run by you all, #gamedev

How do we feel about sprite work made by rotoscoping over live video?

Is this something that's been done already? If so, where should I look?

No time to explain! Describe one of your favorite game entries or franchises poorly!

Got a question for my fellow gamers out there because I'm curious what the general opinion of the community as a whole is:

Generally speaking, do you look for graphical fidelity or aesthetics when considering a game purchase? Do you think the two concepts are mutually exclusive?

There's fog rolling in where I live this morning

As a Persona fan, I wonder who pissed off Izanami.

I'm coming to the conclusion that it's surprisingly difficult to find enough concrete and/or generally canonical information on certain aspects of cultural characters that I can reasonably adapt to my needs for the narrative I want to tell.

Yeah, sure, sex sells and all that, but could we at least get some actual gameplay of your actual game in the ads, please?

The "hey, look, tiddies" form of advertising is nearly as bad as the "here's gameplay video of nothing to do with the game you're downloading" plague that's so prevalent today.
It is comedic how brazen gacha ads are. Yeah sure you're pushing a shooter game with this art i know you have a stacked blonde who's sole purpose in life is to install Doom on everything she can but go on use the *squints* possibly in game art of a sweaty student?

If you send a message to a device owned by a sysadmin that he cannot respond through, is that called a manpage? 🤔

I see no reason not to announce my projects now, I've been getting advice on the code side of the one for a while over Discord.

I'm working on a card-battler JRPG I'm calling Deiform, inspired by the Battle Network series, with thematic aspects inspired by the SMT/Persona games.

Imo it has to do with spectacle.

You're at the end. You've fought your way through innumerable hordes. Victory is a foregone conclusion by gameplay standards.

But narratively? The final boss has to have that little extra to end it with a bang

... unless you're Dying Light, and it's just a QTE
I'm thinking about final levels.

And wondering why so often they're bonkers.

It feels so universally understood that a final level that's too divergent from the core experience isn't ideal and yet so many games do it.

Why do we do this?

Worst parts of being #solodev for me:

1. Researching subject matter to be included in game
2. Snags in coding
3. My own lazy procrastinating a**
4. Debating whether I want some AR in my G
5. Having too many ideas better suited for OTHER potential projects

Does this artwork scream "Alpha set Magic: The Gathering" to anyone else?

No? Just me?

Ok
