If this level of geomagnetic storming continues, northern lights would be visible in eastern Iowa tonight. If.

(Also dependent on clearing, which is likely after midnight but clouds are thin too)

Happy for my Bears people out there. Please schedule a follow-up with your cardiologist on Monday.

Water flowing out of the Cedar River into Manhattan-Robins Lake Park due to an ice jam. Luckily the park is eminently floodable, and this is pretty minor as these things go.

Sunset was nice, too.

That game rocked. Whew. Especially after all the garbage that led up to it this weekend.

There's zero reason to expand the College Football Playoff any further. These early games already stink.

Interstate 80 really looks like a giant mess at the moment in the eastern half of Iowa. Probably a good call to avoid travel! (Screenshot from Iowa 511 app)

Clearly worth noting that the Hawkeyes scored more against Indiana than Ohio State.

Congrats to the Hoosiers, though. That's awesome for them.

I haven't shared a Weather Rewind on here in a while, but this one was kind of fun. A big early-season snowstorm got winter going in a hurry on December 3, 1990. Cedar Rapids got almost 10 inches, Dubuque 15: www.kcrg.com/video/2025/1...
First Alert: Weather Now - Weather Rewind for Monday, December 1
A look back at a massive snowstorm on December 3, 1990, which brought a foot or more of snow to many in eastern Iowa.

This is a bummer because Mike is a good fixture as a Hawkeye beat writer and, by all accounts of his former coworkers before the KCRG/Gazette divorce, a good dude.

The axe always swings when media consolidation happens. Good people end up cut out.
Hlas column: The journey really does matter more than the destination, and the people are more important than the scoreboard. A personal story as the final football game I cover at Kinnick Stadium for the Gazette nears. www.thegazette.com/sports/my-fi...
My first football interview was with a hitchhiking receiver. Now my ride here ends.

Nice to get that first stratus-caused temperature forecast bust under the belt early this season. Gotta love it.
