President Trump's interview on 60 Minutes did very little to clarify his stance on the United States resuming full-scale nuclear tests for the first time in more than three decades. Let's look at some of his statements. 1/11

Resuming U.S. nuclear testing, as President Trump has suggested, “would do more to benefit our adversaries than the United States," says @coreyah.bsky.social on @npr.org.

Trump says he wants to resume nuclear testing. Here's what that would mean
The U.S. has not conducted a nuclear test in over 30 years. Experts say doing one now could make America less safe.

Beijing’s stunning display of nuclear power at its recent military parade is striking. In @economist.com, I explain why China should resist fueling arms races and instead champion a rules-based nuclear order.

Don't forget that foundational investments in the #NNSA's nonproliferation capabilities mean we have off-the-shelf tools for out-of-the-ordinary situations. With at least 400 kgs of enriched uranium in the wind, what would a regime collapse mean for global security? 1/5

Great discussion @pranayrvaddi.bsky.social and @ebrewer.bsky.social. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
I spoke with NTI's Eric Brewer and Carnegie's Corey Hinderstein about military action against Iran's nuclear sites, the future of the nuclear program, and broader nonproliferation implications of last week's events. Link below:

Great thread from James.
Trump just attacked Iran. A few immediate reactions.

First off, as a U.S citizen, I'm simply appalled by Trump's refusal to seek Congressional authorization in violation of law and the constitution. Just because it's not surprising doesn't make it any less dreadful. (1/n)

I’m very worried about the plan for NNSA’s nonpro funding and share why here. Bad for security and bad for deterrence!
Slashing nuclear nonproliferation funding, as the Trump administration has requested, would be, for the U.S., “a recipe for national security failure.”

@coreyah.bsky.social on why, in her latest for Emissary: carnegieendowment.org/emissary/202...
Cutting Nuclear Nonproliferation Funding Will Undermine U.S. National Security
It’ll also make deterrence even more challenging.

Joe is a great communicator, so this is a real compliment.
I just watched @coreyah.bsky.social deliver a brilliant interview on @msnbc.com. Clear, knowledgeable, balanced. She combines deep knowledge of nuclear weapons technology with critical strategic thinking. She should be a booker’s go-to guest.
Waking in Europe to the news from the Middle East. The attack by Israel on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure seems as inevitable as it was avoidable.

It will be very interesting to see how Russia engages with Iran in light of their January 2025 Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. I can’t imagine Putin would be happy about any requests that would undermine military objectives in Ukraine.

My first @carnegieendowment.org writing! On Iran, the outcome may be different but the process could benefit from a look back.
The U.S. and Iran won’t resume nuclear talks in a vacuum. Despite President Trump’s wish to do away with the JCPOA, this weekend’s talks would benefit from a look back at lessons learned in 2015

@coreyah.bsky.social outlines 5:
Five Lessons for the Current Iran Nuclear Talks
Tehran’s nuclear program is in a very different position than it was a decade ago, but key aspects from the JCPOA negotiations remain relevant.
