Not only has Gene been a fixture in gaming journalism for years, he has also fought back against some of the most toxic sludge trolls I've ever seen on social media. A fighter through and through.

Please donate or share his donation resources, whatever you are comfortably able to do.

I'm back on QAA this week, talking about the YouTubers who travel to London to tell their audience that western civilization is collapsing, and that England's supposedly lawless, multi-ethnic capital city is at the heart of it. The episode is called London Has Fallen.

Fun fact: Gene was there the second I met Kat. He was dressed like a hitman on a tropical vacation. He glowed me, a schlub, up pretty good despite being much cooler than I am. Which is what cool people do. Rest is history.

Yes
who the fuck WANTS their posts to go viral, have you ever had that actually happen? it's like getting a winning pull on a slot machine if wasps started pouring out the bottom instead of quarters

Many people don't know what the definition of 'doxing' actually is so they weaponize the word to accuse innocent people of committing some heinous act when in reality they are often sharing publicly available information

Like I said
It is easy to fall into despair right now, but even if it doesn't feel like it yet, history will require that we remember and document what is happening in this moment.

Do the research. Archive everything. Look in places that other people aren't looking. It will be necessary

This is an underacknowledged phenomenon, IMO: Real events, even those with actual proof and documentation, being falsely depicted in the form of AI outputs.

When fake content is based on real info, the everyday social media user is left with no choice but to call every image into question
✔️ YES: On Nov. 28, a raccoon broke into a liquor store in Virginia, damaged more than a dozen bottles of alcohol & passed out on the bathroom floor.

❌ NO: This video does not depict the real event. It's AI-generated.

AI literacy education is sorely and increasingly needed—not just because AI-generated content can be so convincing, but because its very existence sows doubt in authentic content

AND it also needs to co-occur with standard media literacy education. Without that foundation, it won't be enough

My nephew James is smart, curious and polite. He loves Pokémon, hanging out with his very grown-up family and telling jokes.

Two weeks ago, we didn't know if we would still have James. Thanks to the lifesaving heroes at CHOP (@childrensphila.bsky.social) and @pennmedicine.bsky.social, we do.

Melissa was part of the “Be Here for the Cure” campaign in 1993. She was 21 yo. She’s still here, more than three decades later. Sometimes, when the present makes me sad or scared, I think about the courage that those young people had to stand up and fight — for their lives — against the stigma.

Keep thinking about this excerpt from a recent @cwarzel.bsky.social article on the X "user location" fiasco, and what it means in a climate where intel that once seemed reliable now feels like a mere suggestion, if not an overt manipulation of the truth. He writes:

one of the most harmful things about the contemporary internet is the propagation of conspiracy-type thinking en masse

it's gotten to the point where the average highly online person is part of at least one epistemological community that's totally divorced from the rest of reality
