The goal of outward-facing political communication is for your audience to instantly say "Yeah!!" not "What do the heck does that mean?"

It's always telling where someone makes allowances or exceptions to their general principles like the urbanists who want to abolish prisons but car owners get the firing squad or whatever, but Fair Enough my thing is you really should be able to execute holders of high office for treason

So after Trump pardoned Honduras's narco-president, the admin didn't just let him out--they canceled an immigration hold and sent a specialized team to **chauffeur him to the $1k/night Waldorf Astoria.**

Trump, who has sued thousands of times, has not sued anyone calling him a pedophile

Ser Duncan The Tall is virtue posting like it's 1954, like it's 1554, it's like dang old Erasmus's Enchiridion of the Christian Knight

Going to annoy everyone posting something like If Alexandria is African so is Athens
February 16, 2026 at 10:51 PM
But on the other hand Plato and Euclid are really important for understanding Euro and American intellectual history so it is a good idea to read that stuff if institutions are something you care about

You can speak of a classical civilization that we are culturally descended from that includes the Greeks and the Romans. But even if you exclude the Phoenicians and the Persians, it makes no sense to cut out the later Islamic World, through which we get Aristotle and, in dialogue, the Scholastics.

Thucydides was a conservative country party guy and he definitely thought Athens lost the war because democracies get over their skies
February 16, 2026 at 10:20 PM
This is nuts and also Thucydides noted Sparta was a dump compared to how much territory it controlled back in like 400 BCE
Sparta and Athens 2000 years after Frank Miller's weirdo comic for weird losers was set.

How is it possible for people-- who we know have the internet because they are posting on here-- to think Democrats are adopting Republican positions on immigration and trans people?
February 16, 2026 at 10:11 PM
Counterpoints is correct and it’s nuts to me how committed certain famous left accounts are to the notion that Trump is just basically Biden and use that as a cudgel against Dems

You can tell Sir Duncan The Tall is a great drama because it observes the three great unities (of time, place, and action) and because it contains the important plot elements of reversal and recognition

(snorting trying not to laugh) I don't know who needs to hear this but Newsom is probably going to be the Dem nominee in 2028 if he can come to some agreement with Harris
