Just to do a quick recap of the major stories about the Russian economy this week. 30% of logistics companies operating trucks went out of business this winter. Auto sales are down 45,5% and smartphone sales are down 20%. And budget oil and gas revenues missed their target.

Just a reminder, as recently as March 2024, U.S.-based geospatial intelligence company Maxar was accused of providing satellite intelligence to Russia through U.S. proxies.

Lada for 50 000 rubles. This is the cheapest you can find but there's enough for 60 000 - 120 000.

While Trump’s team spreads defeatism and tries to blackmail Ukraine into surrender, Ukrainian soldiers on the battlefield remain unimpressed by the proclamations coming out of Washington Oblast.

Their actions speak louder than words.

old Soviet joke for our times:

Guy stops by the newsstand every day, scans the front page, doesn’t buy the paper. One day the vendor asks what he’s up to.

Guy says: “looking for an obituary.”

Vendor says “those are towards the back of the paper, comrade.”

Guy says: “not the one I’m looking for.”

Europe won't survive sleeping through another wake-up call. We should jump out of bed and throw on a shirt. We should do what we can, with what we’ve got. And we’ve got a lot. Here's how to step things up as the US steps down:

Russia is at a point now where they use donkeys for logistics and attack on electric scooters. Europe can absolutely afford to fund a war in Ukraine against that. But don't give the Russians an operational pause to rebuild firepower.
Europe needs to back Ukraine with everything then freeze Trump out. Make him absolutely unimportant

A common pro-Russian talking point is that Moscow's Cold War-dividend of heavy weapons is limitless and Russia can replace lost tanks/IFV/APC/SPG indefinitely.

You don't convert supply and logistics trucks, chronically in short supply, into a quasi-APC if you have the unlimited armor cheat code.
