How ambitious is the Government’s newly announced affordable homes programme?

It is significantly bigger than recent funding packages, and almost as big (in annual terms) as the programme delivered by the last Labour government ⤵️

Beyer's comment that it's hard for Dems to purposely gum up the works because they want government to work is, I think, the reason Republicans are better at street fighting. No Republican ever says, "we don't want to cause damage that gets a lot of innocent people hurt and destroys the country."
Here's something Dems can consider doing right now: Band together and tell Trump and the GOP that they will not get *a single vote* for any legislation or nominee until he ends Elon Musk's illegal mission to gut our government.

My exchange w/Rep Don Beyer on this:

Scott Bessant, the new US Treasury Secretary (much like the UK Chancellor) has given all payments access to the El Muskateer this weekend.
No one elected either of these men. Musk &Co. was handed clearance to plug in private HD servers at govt offices.

Meme: absolutely reductive view to divide haves/have nots

Me, thinking abit: the human race's chief failing CAN BE reduced to one thing--being obsessed about territory/autonomy and its modern iteration of property ownership/control of others.

Independent and unbiased (ie proxy) journalism is so important as a bulwark against our creeping autocracies. I mourn with Carole the passing of the Observer into oligarch hands. Worth reading all 18 posts of her thread here:
This week the Guardian's owner, the Scott Trust, gifted the 233-year-old Observer to Tortoise Media.

This isn't just a dark day for journalism, it's a sign.

Meet the team.

Really good move here on planning:
- Frees up councillors to focus on making Local Plans
- Speeds up planning process
- Reduces uncertainty
- Respects planning officers as professionals doing their job, which should help staff retention.
