Okay, the S50 has arrived but as usual with new equipment it means overcast skies for weeks... Which makes me think: What if I sell something? Does it work in reverse?

I'm not getting younger and my skies won't become better. I've decided to try out the S50 for comet photometry. As seen on COBS, this little thing is able to produce consistent and reliable comet photometry down to 14 mag or so. Let's see whether this will convert a visual observer.

This is bleak: Jes Staley, currently CEO of Barclays, reassuring Epstein that popular revolt against financial elites is unlikely because capitalism and pop culture have defanged social movements, leaving people more invested in consumption than justice.

Ring galaxies are ridiculously rare.

They make up less than 0.1% of all galaxies.

And yet, look closely, there’s another ring galaxy in the background.

Germany, 2026. Public transport fails, streets are jammed with traffic due to some snow. Chaos everywhere.
We intend to fly to the stars but everything breaks down because of typical winter weather.

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

According to a recent report by the Financial Times, US security guarantees are contingent on Ukraine withdrawing from the entire Donbas region. The shift from 'peace for Ukraine' to 'a piece of Ukraine' probably occurred in secret at the US-Russian summit in Alaska. ('The Producers', 1967)

One of the craziest things last night is that we had TWO back-to-back substorms. I haven't seen this too often. Usually, there is a reset period of 1-2 hours between expansion phases, but last night a new growth phase replaced the expansion after the first substorm.

Frosty but calm morning #CometObs session. 24P/Schaumasse nicely placed about 9° below Arcturus.

This apparition comet shows a marked perhelion asymmetry in its lightcurve ( cobs.si/home/ ).

My favourite & most reliable local short-range forecast model (ICON-D2) predicts clear skies tonight without fog. After three days on travel during which I missed at least one observation night & the aurora this is a most welcome surprise. Clock set for 4:30 to bag an estimate of ☄️ 24P/Schaumasse.
