Well, they recently learned how to defend so I think things might take a turn for the worse for us lol. Either way I share your hope for overall league growth. Hopefully we don’t end up with a couple of super teams and then everyone else, but that’s sports sometimes.

Well I’m a fan of one team, not a direct beneficiary of the league’s profits so I have a different perspective. I see one team currently with an outsized advantage as a result of a special deal we’re not likely to see again.

I’m willing to concede “it is what it is” but I think the ambiguity around Apple’s involvement in the Messi deal is why people feel the way they do.

The question I still have is why did Apple need to be involved at all? I have an issue with the exclusive streaming rights holder helping to pay for a single player on one team. Especially if Miami could not have afforded it themselves. It’s pretty clear MLS pulled out the stops just for this deal.

If we’re supposed to interpret “financial responsibility” as allowing for external revenue sharing and sponsorships then that seems like the biggest loophole ever. Teams could just have other companies pay for their players. Seems bad.

If you read the DP rule as written it says: “with the club bearing financial responsibility for the amount of compensation above each player's Salary Budget Charge”. I find it a bridge too far saying money from Apple TV is coming from the club.

Yep, it’s all backwards. MLS and ownership don’t do the work to accelerate the rules with MLSPA so the teams that can bend the rules the best get the benefits. Media label it as “ambition”.

Team sports brain rot thinking. How about we aggressively make their lives undeniably better? You know, show some principles. I’d rather force healthcare on them than remove their funding.
Unpopular opinion: The next Dem president ought to follow in Trump's lead and (illegally) withhold funding to red states that suppress the rights of their residents. There must be an equal and opposite reaction to Trump's crimes, even if that reaction is itself criminal. Like I said, unpopular.
