The NCAA's lone Canadian member, Simon Fraser, is planning to leave and return to the Canada West Conference in U Sports. The move is tentatively planned to take effect in 2027-28.

SFU released a report earlier this month detailing some likely changes, which include eliminating 5 sports.

Between this and Michigan-USC stonewalling the Big Ten private capital deal (for now), there have been a few surprises this week.

But I know the money will eventually win out. It always does and it's not stopping at the FBS either. FCS/D2/D3 will follow suit, where possible and to a smaller degree.
Bowl Season executive Nick Carparelli tells me the proposal to move The Holiday Bowl to Saudi Arabia didn't get any traction.

That $30K a year they'll be getting from FloSports ought to patch up their financial issues real quick. 🙄
A great read on UChicago, arguing we’re seeing the result of decades of mismanagement: “The university’s trustees and leaders view it preeminently as a tax-free technology incubator, and its debt load is so great that it is abandoning ideals it once held dear in order to sustain that goal.”
The Crisis of the University Started Long Before Trump
The University of Chicago is in crisis. Under extraordinary financial strain, it has diminished its faculty-student ratio and hired hundreds of “lecturers”: teachers whom it pays little and whom it do...

The House Settlement is final, so I decided to take some guesses at how the new roster sizes could impact realignment.

I don't think it's going to be a fun time for Olympic sports, a trend that tennis has already been subjected to.

I had to re-read the SUNYAC press release to make sure I documented all the moves correctly. I didn't, haha.

The SUNYAC release did say SUNY Cobleskill will add women's field hockey and lacrosse, but there was no mention of that in Cobleskill's release.

The constant barrage of "updates" on the Pac-12 media rights have been one of my least favorite parts of realignment the last 10 months. I look forward to the day there's actually an agreement announced and the final numbers are leaked to put this behind us... until the next agreement in 5ish years.
I honest to God don't know. All the schools are under a gag order and would face a stiff fine if they talked to me. I've been burned listening to OSU/Wazzu people about TV rights before. The financial viability of all of stuff also depends, in large part, on mediation re: lawsuits.
Does the PAC 12 have a mountain West team lined up for their 8th member (maybe not UNLV)? Aka are they waiting to finish arbitration and settle all the lawsuits so that it doesn't make a scorched earth situation where the mountain West walks away.

2 more tennis cuts today, although not surprising. Northwestern Ohio from the NAIA's WHAC will discontinue its tennis programs. The WHAC announced in January that it would stop sponsoring tennis.

36 NCAA and NAIA tennis programs won't return in 2025-26 and 12 will be added.
Guess what sport lost another 4 teams for 2025-26 today? Yup, tennis.

Oh, and Stephen F. Austin dropped both golf programs, women's bowling, and women's beach volleyball.
