Hey @ufuk.dev @valeriecodes.bsky.social (not sure if any other RC board members are on bsky), what is your response to this? Hint: it probably should include a public apology and concrete plans to bring in new leadership who know what they're doing.

I was in the room with @mike.contribsys.com when we confronted Ruby Central’s executive leadership over their decision to invite DHH to RailsConf (which sponsors were not made aware of ahead of time). They knew that multiple sponsors had a problem with the continued relationship.
Don't trust Ruby Central right now? Great! Don't.

I've already made it clear that any future donations to them are contingent on them fixing their house and getting things in order.

Money speaks, apparently, so let us do the talking.

Unless the Ruby Central board issues a forceful and specific denial of the facts presented in this article, it appears that @ufuk.dev and others have been deliberately misrepresenting what happened regarding the hostile takeover of the RubyGems and Bundler GH repos.

If this is correct, I take back my previous repost that mentioned that Marty (the manager responsible for rescinding access) should resign; instead, the entire board should resign.

The president of the Ruby Central board posted this, and she has disabled all quotes and replies on her posts, so I have to screenshot it. While it’s true that there is no evidence that the org named Ruby Central has taken direct funding from Basecamp/DHH, the full story is more nuanced.

Oh look, it appears that a Ruby Central board member is posting here. And they’re lying, or at least grossly misrepresenting the truth in a bad attempt to clean up this mess. This definitely makes me feel better about everything! 🙄
Let me clarify that: Ellen was a maintainer on the Rubygems repo who RC would employ occasionally on a 10 hours/month contract. Last paid engagement we had with them was in May. They had no production access and were not an admin. They also didn't need commit rights for the work they did.

Extremely saddened by the hostile takeover of RubyGems. As an (occasionally lapsed) Ruby developer since 2005-ish, I’ve seen firsthand what the community has built over the past several decades. To abruptly throw that away in the name of security reeks of, at minimum, gross incompetence.

This is what I think should happen based on the facts so far:
* Restore everything as before September 9
* Let those previous trusted maintainers establish a clear governance
* Marty should resign/be fired for this, I think that trust can't be restored and RubyGems is not someone's dictatorship

Hey, #ruby folks! I've been one of the #RubyGems maintainers for the last decade.

Ruby Central has forcefully taken control of the RubyGems organization on GitHub, the `rubygems-update` and `bundler` gems on rubygems[.]org, and more.

I find myself going to ChatGPT more and more for low-stakes questions that I'd like an answer to, almost entirely because of the low quality results on Google and other search engines. It's way faster to ask an LLM, vs. wading through pages of spam to find the info I'm looking for.
