USDOT and a major outlet are framing DC's traffic cameras as a cash grab. They're essential for keeping people safe on our streets. But the revenues should go to Vision Zero as the Council planned, not DC's general budget.
What the Politico story got wrong about automated traffic enforcement, and what it got right

It’s fitting that Bowser’s administration started with a Supercan rollout debacle and ends with them all rat-eaten and picked up late.

My sense is that China is using this oldie but goodie @rockymountviews.bsky.social playbook to destroy global oil demand. With subsidized EV technology, China can help 50+ emerging markets destroy 3-4 million barrels per day of oil demand by 2030.

Open source is awesome. Santa gave my 6 year old a 26 year-old Lego Mindstorms RCX 1.5 set and Amazon brought a USB2-Serial adapter cable. A small squad of open source developers have given me NQC and with minimal fuss I was able to upload new firmware from my M1 Mac and run a first test program.

A postmortem on the RFK stadium deal
May the DC government ignore opposition to legalizing apartments everywhere the way it ignored all the evidence against paying for a football stadium.

When the suspect commits a second murder, gets away, and kills himself in a storage unit, I don't think you get to say "we got him" at a press conference several days later.

Meanwhile Noah Baumbach just keeps filming his therapy sessions.
Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

Had been waiting for ten minutes for a D60/D6X. Finally a D6X came… and only let three people on. Next bus predicted in 13 minutes. Why did I devote so much time to the 16th St bus lanes project?

Can confirm. It’s all short stories because the teachers don’t think the kids can, probably because most can’t. :-/
As a parent of a now middle-schooler, I'm really hoping and expecting that by the time she hits 8th grade she's reading novels in school. But that's not happening everywhere in D.C., as I learned from this informative op-ed in @51st.news: 51st.news/opinion-dcps...
Opinion: DCPS middle-schoolers should be reading novels
Many parents like myself were shocked by a recent change to the English curriculum at Alice Deal Middle School.

Ranked Choice Voting seems like a threat to repaving the same intersection 4 times in the same year.
CM Anita Bonds just issued the following “Statement Regarding the 11/24/25 BOE Readiness Roundtable”:

“Be clear – this was in no way an attempt to reverse course on ranked choice voting. […] The job now is to ensure that the process is implemented to the best of our ability.”

There’s no better metaphor for Bowser’s legacy than all the ”rat-proof” supercans rolled out in her first term, which now all have ratholes and the city can’t figure out how to replace.
Some 2026 intrigue: There's a new effort to "draft" Mayor Muriel Bowser to run for a fourth term backed by Opportunity DC, the political group assembled by the Federal City Council/other business interests.

"One more time!" urges the petition on the site:
