Cruise Ships Are A Trojan Horse

Before I moved to Eastport, I lived & worked in Portland for over a decade. I saw firsthand how a waterfront city can trade its soul for short-term tourism dollars — & lose its community in the process. @jasminejaye.bsky.social

“black carbon” (soot), is a complex mixture of partially burned high molecular weight organics. Very nasty, very toxic. A big problem when cruise ships have to run their generators next to human communities; in Eastport, they certainly do - No shore power here. Where is DEP? At what price, poison?

Give Right Whales Room
North Atlantic right whales are on the move along the Atlantic coast of the U.S. If seen, remember that approaching a right whale closer than 500 yards is a violation of federal law.

Portland City Councilor Wes Pelletier, is pushing for the city to create an automatic public alert system that would notify residents when cruise ships with sick passengers arrive.
