Cheshire Lines Poster
Cheshire Lines Railway was formed in 1860s. There are some brilliant #railway posters for the company, very attractive and good for promoting travel in NW England. This one is from the Science Museum Group Collection.

Burton Point is an #IronAge promontory fort on the southern end of the peninsula. They are regarded as high status settlements. It is similar to hill forts found on rocky coasts of Cornwall, Wales and the Isle of Man, and rare nationally. #hillfortswednesday #Archaeology #Wirral

Book of Engravings
One of my favourite secondhand #books is a collection of engravings from the 18th & 19th centuries of #Cheshire. This is a beauty, "The Crosses at #Sandbach" by W. Alexander, 1810. The actual crosses are magnificent, too.

A favourite set of #Ladybird books from my collection. Text by E L Grant Watson, & fantastic #drawings by C F Tunnicliffe R.A. Three of my set have the original dustcovers, & look what was underneath! The best 2/6 you could spend in the 1960s!

While giving my talk on Crime & Punishment last night it occurred to me what a great source the witness statements found in the Quarter Sessions records are for the voices of 'ordinary' people. It's not often you get to hear them, particularly when it comes to 19th Century working class women.
