The ‘bel’ in ‘decibel’ is for Alexander Graham Bell.

Since the ‘B’ in 'dB' is a name-derived unit, it is capitalized when abbreviated.

The tactic of demonizing empathy was for moments like this.

When people have no empathy for others and are loyal to power above all else, they will believe whatever those in power say, no matter how false, and even distrust their own eyes when they see others being harmed.

The 'kin' of ‘napkin’ means "little."

‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.”

So a napkin is a little tablecloth.

10/10, no notes.

This. All day this.
I understand he's a bully, that many of his followers are doxxers, that you're on Air Force One. But in 2016 I wanted Clinton to turn around at the debate and say "Stop lurking behind me, you fucking creep" and the first journo to say "What the fuck did you call me?" will be a hero forever
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

This, by @heidikstevens.bsky.social, is a gut punch
“We’re waiting to see what we stand for. Stand for meaning what defines us, and stand for meaning what we’ll allow. What we cherish, what we’re willing to concede.

Who we’ll protect from abuse of power, and whose abuse of power we’ll protect.”
Heidi Stevens: It’s morning in America, and we have no idea if the day will bring help and hope — or more cruelty
Our country and our city are at a precipice, and we may soon see what we stand for, writes Heidi Stevens.

This is why I often scoff at the names tied to the Cubs in FA. Because I've yet to see them consistently compete financially to land those players.

LOVE RR!! One of the first women I remember seeing and learning from when I watched sports growing up.

Definitely check this one out 👍

As a teacher, I appreciate someone trying to educate others without talking down to them. This was a masterclass from @readjack.bsky.social

I'll definitely check out the full pod, but this clip noted the thing I both loved and loathed w/Williams last year. When he made the right decision, it looked good. But too often, he looked for the big play instead of taking what was there. Hopefully real coaching can fix that now.
Job number one for Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson? Bringing down that time to throw.…

Discussed the Bears QB’s development with @sethwickersham.bsky.social on the pod!

According to federal data, 13 of the top 20 cities in homicide rates have Republican governors. None of those cities are Chicago.

8 of the top 10 states in homicide rates are led by Republicans. None of those states are Illinois.

And yet Trump is sending troops here.

Part of me wants to be irritated because everyone kept saying the Cubs would move early and be super aggressive. The rational part of me knows they can only make moves of there's a partner.

Ultimately, I just end up pissed they're not super aggressive in the winter. Makes this part a little easier.
Yes, It Has Been a Very Slow Trade Season, But That Doesn’t Mean a Slow Deadline
Yes, It Has Been a Very Slow Trade Season, But That Doesn’t Mean a Slow Deadline
It has been a slow trade season. Painfully slow. Boring and frustrating as a number of bubble teams drag their feet, as sellers keep prices outrageously high, and as certain buyers stay maddeningly (but correctly) disciplined. But, I saw something I thought worth sharing as we await some activity today and tomorrow. Even though it’s been a slow trade season so far, that doesn’t necessarily mean things won’t really pick up today and tomorrow: using @baseball_ref transaction data, here's a look at how many trades have been made on each day leading up to the trade deadline over the past 25 years quantity of trades has soared recently, so we're basically guaranteed to have a flurry of activity over the final 48 hours pic.twitter.com/jcjfP34UYO— Céspedes Family BBQ (@CespedesBBQ) July 29, 2025 A great pull from Cespedes Family BBQ that underscores just how much things typically accelerate in the final 24 hours, especially lately. If we go by that chart, we would expect to see roughly 8-10 deals today (we’ve seen only one so far, in Austin Slater going to the Yankees), and then another 25-30 deals tomorrow. It may not play out precisely like that, of course, because outliers happen. I’m just saying that if history is a guide, then a typical deadline would play out with plenty of activity today and tomorrow. Heck, look back at the chart again and you’ll see that other years have arguably been just as “slow” as this year.
