Do Royals as patrons help charities raise money? We set out to test that using difference-in-differences analysis.
Our findings: Prince Andrew’s patronage had no detectable effect on charities’ revenue. Full details here 👉
Prince Andrew - remember him? - was patron of many charities until he ‘stepped back’ from everything after his Newsnight interview.
Did he help his #charity patronees?
Nope: not according to new (complicated) analysis from Giving Evidence.

Some coverage of Giving Evidence's new report about Prince Andrew's #charity patronages claims that we found "a rise in profits". The concept of profit is normally meaningless in relation to charities: we looked at revenue.

Major sign Prince Andrew still ‘toxic’ despite attempts at comeback
Prince Andrew has been left red faced after several charities he once supported as patron saw a rise in profits after he stepped down from royal duties.

Could parliamentary procedure be so complex that it confuses even those in power?
This intriguing paper by @laurenjarnach.bsky.social (shameless promotion for my wife's work) delves into the vital role of parliamentary procedure in democratic outcomes.

German BSW voters definitely judge books by their cover. 📚Unsurprising, but still interesting: people are voting primarily for her, not the party’s policies. 🗳️

Our newest piece on BSW is now published. We show that when attitudes toward Wagenknecht come into the game, policies are no longer that meaningful in predicting behaviour. Personalisation in a personalised party! What a surprise! 😀

🗳️ Germany’s 2025 Federal Election

1/ Gender divide at the ballot box:
Women leaned towards SPD, Greens, and the Die Linke, while men favoured CDU/CSU and AfD. Crucial questions: What drives young men towards the populist far-right? AND what drives young women to the left? #GermanyElection2025

NEW: updated long-run gap in voting between young men and women in Germany:

Gender divide continues to widen, but contrary to what is often assumed, young men continue to vote roughly in line with the overall population, while young women have swung sharply left.

Why does 25% AfD among young men spark a thousand "what is going on with young men?" posts yet Die Linke 34% among young women generates...nothing at all?

Yes, young men voting for the radical right is an important phenomenon. But so is young women going rad left *at even higher rates*.
