A portrait shot of a trumpet shaped solid black Wedgwood vase with neo classical floral decorations. The vase has been photographed against a blue background which, depending on your particular device, may or may not resemble the darker of Wedgwood's two blue shades. Out of focus behind the vase is a blue leather silverware case with a cream silk rose and several white beaded necklaces draped over it. Wedgwood (established 1759) was named for its founder Josiah Wedgwood. The company became especially known for its jasperware (a matte finish stoneware developed by Josiah in the 1770s). The most readily identifiable pieces are done in the iconic combination of pale blue with white relief decorations. Jasperware is initially white, but was then stained different colours through additional processes. The very earliest versions were stained through with colour, but this shifted to a dipping process which is the case with the vase pictured. There are a few very small nibbles where the underlying white stoneware is visible.

Should be a fun week but still challenging given we have to Frame some Leading Lines for the #AlphabetTechPhoto sub-challenge.

I've added some info in the Alt about leading lines and thankful that we'll back at this location on Tuesday. A place where leading lines and framing come together.
Leading lines are a powerful compositional technique where natural or man-made lines—such as roads, fences, or rivers—are used to guide the viewer’s eye through a photograph toward a specific subject. By creating depth, structure, and a sense of movement, these lines (often starting in the foreground and moving toward the background) enhance the narrative of the image. Key Aspects of Using Leading Lines: Types: Lines can be straight, curved, diagonal, or converging, including paths, shorelines, trees, fences, shadows, and architectural elements. Direction: They typically originate from the bottom edge of the frame to lead the eye toward the subject. Purpose: They create a three-dimensional feel in a two-dimensional image, adding depth and focusing attention. Technique: Using a wide-angle lens can enhance the effect by exaggerating the perspective, especially when shooting from a low or high angle. Examples and Tips: Roads/Paths: A winding road leading to a distant mountain. Architecture: The convergence of walls, pillars, or staircases. Nature: A riverbank leading to a waterfall or a line of trees. Composition: Pair with the rule of thirds to place the subject at the end of the line for maximum impact.

Hi all,
I’ve been working on a small series shot around Southend Pier using intentional camera movement and long exposure.

This is part of a new direction for me, leaning harder into abstraction and “ghost” figures rather than recognisable moments.
