Took a wee dander down to Marks & Sparks on Oxford Street after work yesterday and the heavens opened as I was passing Marble Arch #AlphabetChallenge #WeekFforFramed #EastCoastKin #UrbanGaze
Marble Arch stands illuminated on a rainy evening beneath heavy, dark clouds. The grand white marble monument features three arched passageways framed by tall Corinthian-style columns and detailed sculpted reliefs set into the façade. Decorative carvings crown the central arch, and classical figures are carved into panels on either side. Warm golden lanterns hang within each arch, casting a soft glow that reflects off the rain-slicked pavement. In the centre, a lone figure holding a dark umbrella walks through the main archway, their silhouette small against the imposing structure, with bare winter trees faintly visible in the background.

Used a monochrome filter as the graffiti is not gifted work but was in vibrant colours which drew the eye too much from the overall scene.

This black-and-white photograph captures the Grand Gallery of the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, showcasing its magnificent Victorian architecture. Designed by Captain Francis Fowke and opened in 1866, this "birdcage" structure was inspired by London's Crystal Palace. The central focus is the soaring, longitudinal glass-and-iron roof that floods the atrium with natural light. The roof structure features a series of elegant, slender cast-iron arches that span the width of the hall. These arches are supported by exceptionally narrow cast-iron pillars, which were an engineering feat at the time, designed to be the thinnest possible while still supporting the massive structure. The roof itself is composed of numerous rectangular panes of glass held in a delicate metal framework, creating a repetitive geometric pattern that draws the eye upward and toward the far end of the gallery. The gallery is multi-storied, with several levels of balconies lining the long sides of the atrium. These balconies feature intricate cast-iron balustrades with decorative motifs, including miniature stilted arches. The verticality of the space is emphasised by the continuous lines of the slender columns rising from the floor to the roof, creating a strong sense of rhythm and symmetry. At the far end of the gallery, the roof curves into a semi-circular, apsidal dome, which is also glazed to match the rest of the ceiling. This rounded end provides a graceful conclusion to the long, rectangular hall. The stark black-and-white treatment of the photo highlights the interplay of light and shadow across the complex metalwork, emphasising the structural elegance and the sense of vast, open space within this historic "cathedral of curiosities".

The installation is called "Boltenstern-Luster" and was designed by Christian Ploderer. It penetrates the portico as a curved brass band. The chandelier has 270 LED light tubes made of frosted glass, which can change their light colour depending on the time of day. On the left side of the picture, you can also see two hanging lamps between stucco-decorated columns.
