The administration has canceled 45 RECOVER #LongCOVID grants. These grants examined pathology, & were vital to understanding infection-associated chronic illness as a whole.

Half of those with #LongCOVID at 6 mo. meet criteria for #MECFS. 🧪

So grateful for Ed Yong’s journalism on MECFS AND long Covid
I wrote an op-ed for the NYT about what reporting on long COVID has meant to me—how I approached it, the impact it had, and how it taught me to be a better journalist.

This piece is sort of a manifesto for a journalism grounded in compassion, rigor, and care.

Opinion | Reporting on Long Covid Taught Me to Be a Better Journalist
Covering long Covid solidified my view that science is not the objective, neutral force that it is often caricatured to be.

Lots of people know about #LongCovid but are unaware that "post-acute infection syndromes" are a recognised medical problem & have existed for centuries.

Here Yale School of Medicine outline the 4 main causal theories >> viral remnants; autoimmune responses; latent viruses; tissue damage

Excellent news!

#CDC has a new page on infection-associated chronic sequelae. Of particular import: these chronic symptoms linger "even after appropriate treatment". 🧵

MECFS in German press. Translation of OP's post: "A great successful article in the FAZ on #MECFS. In addition to the immeasurable suffering of 3 seriously ill women, the history of the illness, the fatal role of psychosomatics and Prof. Scheibebogen's hope for a drug in 2026 are discussed."

ME/CFS-Patienten sind arm dran. Die Krankheit: kaum erforscht. Medikamente: nicht zugelassen. Die Ärzte: oft ahnungslos. Doch langsam verändert sich die Lage.
