We are proud that our party voted unanimously to pass our policy motion, Defending Women's Rights Across the Globe, at conference on Tuesday.

Thank you Care International for your ongoing work championing global gender equality.
Women’s rights are under attack worldwide & the UK must respond. Yesterday the @libdems.org.uk did.

Championed by @libdemwomen.bsky.social & @monicaharding.bsky.social, we welcome their pledge to put women & girls at the heart of the UK’s global role, dedicating 20% of aid to gender equality.

And yet somehow she managed not to mention women ✨️once✨️
A highly political speech by Rachel Reeves

She repeated that various funding boosts were “my choice” 19 times

And used the word “choice” a total of 72 times

Just back from a wonderful week in Ethiopia with @ww2preventvawg.bsky.social colleagues & partners!

With enough investment and political will, we know that #PrevetionIsPossible, and so at a time of increasing rights rollback and reductions in budgets, we'll be working harder than ever to #EndVAWG.

As International Women’s Day 2025 approaches, @careintuk.bsky.social’s Parliament drop-in was a powerful reminder of why UK aid is vital in empowering women and girls worldwide.

Their incredible work strengthens women’s voices and leadership, enabling them to stand up for their rights.

Last night @careintuk.bsky.social gathered MPs and women's rights activists to rally support for gender equality spend. The message to the Foreign Secretary was clear:

REVERSE THE CUTS. PROTECT GENDER EQUALITY.

Anneliese Dodds just last month:

"Britain is back on the world stage. We are not prepared to sit back and watch as humanitarian needs grow and grow. To do so would be a betrayal of core British values."

No surprise therefore to see her resign over these brutal cuts.

Cutting the aid budget to play for defence feels like undercutting significant soft power in the hope of getting a defence spend Trump will like. Might be a necessary evil, but it’s an evil all the same: people make a terrible case for aid but it works in our self-interest. It’s not just altruism.

Thank you Alice MacDonald for taking CARE's call to the heart of Westminster. We need to support women leaders in conflict & crisis.

Setting a target focused on gender equality spend within the UK aid budget is a logical first step in getting women & girls the support they need

Thank you so much Alice Macdonald for raising this important question on how UK aid can prioritise #genderequality.

While we agree with Minister Dodds that effective mainstreaming is needed, we also need aid targeted specifically at gender equality.

We're asking for a target of at least 20%.
