A former UK prime minister held responsible for tens of thousands of deaths while the US president calls for elected politicians to be hanged.

A jolt of a reminder that law and policy are ultimately about life and death.

And politicians are often not up to dealing with such things.

I’m not saying I won’t moan about it when the time comes to pay, but I think the Govt should raise my income tax because I am profoundly worried about the state of public services.

My dog loves water but hates being wet.

Gallops with glee into the rain. Flops happily into puddles. Races into streams.

Then immediately gets upset when the water seeps through her fur and touches her skin.

Girl I’m sorry, the water-wetness correlation is truly causation I’m afraid.

Politics is not like selling biscuits, where the task is to find out what people like & flog it to them.

It's a moral activity. It's about arguing for the things you believe in. It's about *shaping* the "median voter".

Farage has moved the centre-ground of politics. His opponents can move it back.

this is great for two reasons

1, the obvious: brilliant deconstruction of how patriarchy tries to sell total emotional isolation as not just a side effect but a GOAL of doing masculinity correctly

2: the repeated mentions of Buffalo Wild Wings made me laugh so hard
this is, hands down, the best video I've seen on men's influencer content and it's not close either

There’s a persistent myth that new solar farms don’t really help tackle climate change because panels are “made with coal” and “never pay back” their carbon debt.

This is simply false.

- UN: solar ~8x cleaner than gas, ~19x than coal per kWh
- panels repay CO2 in 4 months; save 57x over life

My Prospect piece yesterday set out how a illiberal radical government with a firm majority and competent advisers could easily abuse the UK constitution - and that the UK more vulnerable to this than US.

But.

This sort of warning is not new. It has been over a hundred years in the making.

I prosecute and defend the most serious sexual offences in our courts.

The overwhelming majority of offenders are British-born. Overwhelmingly the victim is someone known to them, either a partner or relative.

Anybody purporting to care about protecting women might start there.
