This is a depressing read, esp the loss of 12000 jobs in #HigherEducation this year.
But it pretty much sums up what it feels like to work in HE in the UK right now.
Series of measures from Govt taking away with one hand what they have just given. Do the sums!

Reform were campaigning in a local town square this morning & a woman stepped up to me to talk to me with leaflet in hand.
I have to say the reaction I had was 💯 visceral
I shuddered, shook my head, put my hands in pockets & said “Absolutely no way!” Can’t think of a worse way to spend my day off 😖

Now both Reform & the Conservatives are clamouring to leave the ECHR, we should perhaps pause before this turns into Brexit 2.0. It’s vital that people understand what the ECHR actually is and what losing it would mean. This funny short video explains it.

Is going to #university still worth it?
General public think 40% of students regret going to university but in fact it’s much lower at just 8%.

Nice to hear some optimistic voices about the future of #UKHE for a change.

Having been through one of these over 20 years ago, these kinds of institutional mergers are torturous.

Had one of those “glad to be alive” nights with my husband tonight. We started with lovely Spanish food & wine then a fabulous high NRG gig with Nile Rodgers & Chic - there is nothing like the collective experience of good music & dancing to lift your ❤️

Ok so we are all in the grip of a woke bias and carrying out faulty thinking.

Academics are to blame for the woke wreckage at universities

Academics are to blame for the woke wreckage at universities
As young teachers at Oxford we know how deep-rooted woke thinking is. And it’s older colleagues who stood by nodding it all through

Surprising how much public perception and media narratives about regret in Higher Education differ from the actual experiences. The reality isn’t always what headlines suggest. #UKHE #graduate #regret

Ely Cathedral is delightful. The audio guide is so well designed. I am enchanted by the story of Saint Etheldreda and will have to learn more.

Trump treats Saudi like an ATM. MBS clings to $100 oil fantasies. But China’s EV blitz is crushing demand, reshaping global power and energy markets. OPEC+ is crumbling. Oil’s era is ending—and these two dinosaurs are too deluded to see it. They truly deserve each other. #EVRevolution #EndofOil #EVs

So disappointed in Labour after desperately wanting them in power after 14 years of Tories. I cancelled my membership, wrote to my MP to tell him to feedback to the party how pandering to Reform crowd is damaging core party support & frankly bad for the Uk
Not for 1st time wish I was in Australia.

This is so disappointing from Labour
There we all were in #UKHE waiting for a different attitude to student immigration & development of sensible policy maybe even taking international students out of immigration stats. But this feels too similar to the last 14 years & I’m done 👋🏽
