I picked up Hollow Knight for the first time is many months. I thought I'd be struggling to get the hang of the controls again, but apparently 75 hours of playing has really cemented them in my brain, and I picked it up again very easily.

Oh my stars, I love this game.

Acknowledging burnout, I've effectively given myself the month of October off from regular, obligatory CF work. As expected, little ideas and connections are drifting to the surface like bubbles in a pot of water over heat. I'm scribbling notes and jotting down questions to ponder.

Twice now, I've come up w/ a design for one specific character, but ended up passing that design along to another character instead. Now, I have THE design for the character. This is what they were supposed to look like all along. It was just a bit of a process.

From Ch. 2, No. 7
Zander sending a glisser to see Clove home safely.

Depicting dynamic motion is not my strong suit, but I'm working on it. I said that my previous post was my favorite illo from chapter 2, but this is a strong contender.

Sometimes when I'm in a slump, I'm inclined to pick up Stardew Valley and start a new save. It's like a synthetic microcosm that helps kickstart the positive reinforcement cycle of working at something little by little, one day at a time, until you reach a goal that once seemed nebulous and distant.

Teenage Clove and her cousin Terris in a flashback scene from Ch. 2, No. 4.2.

This is without a doubt my favorite illo from chapter 2. The third image is an alternate clothing design I was playing around with for Terris.

I've been picking away at reading Interview with the Vampire for months and months. My goal is, fittingly, to finish it by the end of October.

Then I can move onto a shorter, simple book. I'd like to make my way through the whole Chronicles, but not all at once.

Bit of an older piece.

"There's nothing inherently evil about necromancy. Most associate it with undead armies sweeping across nations, but I use it to get some extra use from my neglected sourdough starter. It allows for greater control of the dough's rise."

In no particular order, I'll slowly be sharing some in-progress saved images that I actually remembered to do from chapter 2.

"The lighthouse keeper hummed a faint melody and shut the door gently. He had an affable, spirited air about him, appearing genuinely delighted to have a visitor."

Took a week off of CF after the conclusion of ch 2. Before starting work on ch 3, I'm taking a month to reformat ch 1. CF ch 1 began as a comic, and it became clear to me that the format wasn't the best way to do justice to this story. I'm excited to approach those installments in written format!

I came across this initial sketch (left) of Clove's house today, conceptualized a little over two years ago. Which is wild to me! Time flies 🦇
