Warmth ticks up even more as we head into the second half of the work week. It won’t last, though, as a weekend front will send temperatures back below normal by Sunday.
Rest of the work week: Another uptick in warmth
Warmer-than-normal temperatures will continue for the rest of the work week, with a stretch of 70° days expected beginning Wednesday. Lows Wednesday bottom out in the mid-50s — typical early January lows are closer to the upper 30s — while warming to the low-to-mid-70s under partly cloudy skies. A few more clouds work their way in for Thursday and Friday as high pressure traverses to our north and a storm system to the west chucks some cirrus our way.

Tuesday: Warmer than normal conditions continue, with another upswing later this week
Our run of above-normal temperatures is just beginning, and will continue through Tuesday and the rest of the work week. Expect lows to bottom out in the upper 40s to around 50° on Tuesday morning, with temperatures warming into the upper 60s to low 70s in the afternoon under a mix of sun and clouds.

A quiet and warm week of weather lies ahead as we go back to work and school for the first time in 2026. Temperatures this week will climb some 10-15° above normal at times, but we should stay just short of any record highs.

We clear out and cool off on Sunday in the wake of a cold front. The cooldown is short-lived, though, as warmer-than-normal temperatures return for the first full work week of 2026.
Sunday: Clearing up ahead of a warm week
The cold front that brought some much-needed rainfall to the area on Saturday will clear the area for Sunday, bringing about a cooler, drier, and sunnier day after some patches of fog in the morning. Temperatures start around 40°, but northerly winds blowing in cooler air will keep temperatures capped below 60° for most of us. Sunday will be the coolest day of the week as high pressure shifts offshore, bringing about quite a warm spell for the first full work week of 2026.

Many of us are in a break in the rain right now, and some of us could even be largely done with the bulk of it already. Still, a front is meandering across the Tri-County, and south of this front, a few more showers and storms are expected.
January 3, 2026 at 5:46 PM
Storms, perhaps with some gusty winds, will move through on Saturday ahead of a cold front. Said front clears the area relatively quickly, though, yielding a seasonably cool and mostly sunny Sunday.
Weekend forecast: Stormy Saturday, cooler Sunday
The first rain chance of the new year arrives on Saturday as low pressure along a cold front develops and approaches the area. We'll clear out in time for a pleasant and seasonable Sunday, though.

After a dry but increasingly cloudy Friday, the first storm system of the year affects the area on Saturday with showers and maybe even a thunderstorm or two. It'll be short-lived, though, clearing out and cooling off for Sunday.
Friday & the weekend: On track for the first rain of 2026 on Saturday
I hope you and yours are having a nice and safe start to your 2026! We certainly have had a nice day of weather on Thursday to kick the new year off right, but the first storm system of the year won't waste any time getting through the area on Saturday.

2026 gets off to a quiet and seasonable start with plenty of sunshine. Clouds increase Friday ahead of the year's first rain chance on Saturday, but we clear out on Sunday to close the first weekend of 2026 on a high note (weather-wise, anyway).
New Year’s forecast: 2026 starting out on a sunny note
We'll get 2026 off to a slightly chilly but seasonable start with surface high pressure in control. Temperatures will fall to the mid-30s by morning, with some freezing temperatures possible closer to I-95. With plenty of sunshine, though, temperatures will rebound right to where they should be for the beginning of the year, with highs peaking around 60° in the afternoon.

You’ll want a jacket if you’re headed out for New Year’s Eve tonight with temperatures in the 40s and wind chills dipping into the mid-30s. Enjoy and be safe!

2025 will finish on a chilly note, but temperatures will moderate heading into 2026, with near-normal temperatures expected to start the new year. The first rain chance of 2026 arrives Saturday, but will be short-lived as low pressure departs Sunday.

2PM temperatures are in the mid-to-upper 40s across the metro, with Johns Island eking out 50° with the 1:50 PM observation. A chilly New Year’s Eve Eve!
December 30, 2025 at 7:07 PM
Much cooler air will work its way into the area for Tuesday, sending lows to freezing and capping highs in the low 50s despite plenty of sunshine. Slow but sure warming resumes Wednesday and continues into the new year.
Tuesday: Much cooler behind the front
A cold front getting through the area Monday afternoon will usher in much cooler air for Tuesday. We'll start the day around freezing away from the coast, with wind chills bottoming out in the mid-to-upper 20s in the morning thanks to northwesterly winds around 5-10 MPH. This breeze continues for much of the day. Despite full sunshine, the ongoing influx of cold air will keep highs pinned to the low 50s across the metro.

It’s quite gusty out there and cooling off quickly to boot: a wind gust of 35 MPH was recently recorded at the airport, with temperatures falling from 72° at 3 PM to 67° at 3:56 PM.

One more unseasonably warm day is on tap for Monday before the airmass flips in the wake of a cold front, which will help us usher in 2026 on a cooler and more seasonable note.

And now that record has been broken. We are up to 79° at the airport with more heating to come. 80° not out of the question!

Record high of 78° at the airport has been tied as of around 1:20 PM according to NWS.

Quiet weather continues this weekend, though the temperature rollercoaster will continue to roll on as record highs Saturday yield to cooler (but still warmer-than-normal) temperatures on Sunday. A sharper cooldown awaits as we close out 2025 and ring in 2026.

After a toasty Christmas Day, we'll run a bit cooler on Friday as a front drops in from the north and stalls nearby. Temperatures warm back up Saturday before cooling back off again on Sunday. A more durable cooldown is expected to kick in starting next Tuesday.
Friday & the weekend: Temperature rollercoaster resumes
I hope everyone celebrating had a very Merry Christmas! It was certainly a warm one as the high reached 78° today, just two degrees off the record of 80° last set in 2015 and cementing itself ahead of Christmas 2016 for the second-warmest Christmas high temperature on record at the airport. A backdoor cold front stalling nearby will drive more cloud cover into the area for Friday as well as a bit more in the way of onshore flow, which will make for a cooler day (though temperatures will remain above normal).

Merry Christmas: Temperatures are running generally in the mid-to-upper 70s across the Lowcountry this afternoon. The record high of 80° set in 2015 may yet be attainable…
December 25, 2025 at 6:27 PM
We remain on track for a quiet and much warmer than normal Christmas holiday, but cooler weather will return next week.
Forecast: Still on track for a warmer-than-normal Christmas
Sprawling high pressure aloft over the central part of the country will keep warmer-than-normal temperatures in the forecast through Christmas and heading into the weekend. There are changes coming, though, in the form of an Arctic blast that will bring 2025 to a chilly end.

The main weather story for the week ahead — including Christmas Day — will be much warmer-than-normal temperatures as high pressure aloft will remain the dominant weather feature across a good bit of the continental US.
