Items blocked for aid groups on security grounds include generators, tent poles and other life-saving supplies, yet the same goods have entered Gaza for at least a month via private traders and are now sold at steep mark-ups. Humanitarian, diplomatic and UN sources say this disparity undermines aid operations while enriching traders who can secure Israeli permits as well as the Israeli economy. Aid officials say the system has also fueled an illegal wartime economy.
