My favorite still from the set of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. I wanted this in the book but I couldn't find the rights to use it and an original was too expensive. I've been doing interviews now that the book's out and will make a list below! @unmpress.bsky.social @sarenaulibarri.bsky.social

These films have all aged incredibly well. The 80s, for all its failings, produced some great movies.
There are a couple of films I've seen upwards of 100+ times. The first films I pirated on VHS that I wore through every day after school while I was doing homework. RAIDERS OF THE LOST ark definitely. BACK TO THE FUTURE, THE KARATE KID... anyway, watching BACK TO THE FUTURE again and still fresh.

I teach the 1980s Tylenol scare each semester. Great comparison and I’ll certainly use it!
Six people died from tampered Tylenol and the company pulled 30 million bottles off the market. ChatGPT is accused of urging seven people towards suicide, and OpenAI just assures us they’re still working out the kinks. Billions in investment, zero accountability.

Eager to watch this. It's long, and I'm sure it's a bit repetitive (as this review suggests), but few stories could be more timely right now.

In the 20th Century, so many industries followed the movies by self-policing their own content. Hollywood had the MPPDA (today's MPA), literature had their own association, comics had a Code Authority, music adopted the "Parental Advisory," TV has rating, why can't Meta create it's own thing?

Honored to have just received kind praise of this book by Ford scholar Joseph McBride. I was, perhaps, most nervous about his feedback as he is so incredibly passionate and defensive of Ford. With praise for Scott Eyman (who blurbed) and Joe McBride, both towering Ford experts, I can now rest easy.
