My favorite still from the set of The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. I wanted this in the book but I couldn't find the rights to use it and an original was too expensive. I've been doing interviews now that the book's out and will make a list below! @unmpress.bsky.social @sarenaulibarri.bsky.social

Paramount has a "list," the Committee for the First Amendment is back, Hollywood is under attack, free speech is under assault, but we've been here before. History is instructive. Here are some insights I learned from children of the Blacklist era, among other things...

Had an absolute blast this morning discussing the famous and infamous Carolco production company on-screen for a documentary directed by Jeremy Fauchoux and Julien Dupuy.

It will be out in early 2026 from CANAL+

With Warner Bros. sale discussion omnipresent, let me reshare a column I wrote for Time's "Made by History" section about Harry Warner's moral high ground.

“We’re going after Warners,” Ellison told confidants even before the Paramount deal got the Trump administration’s approval. “I want to be in the top three, not the bottom three.”

...things are just heating up.

Honored to have just received kind praise of this book by Ford scholar Joseph McBride. I was, perhaps, most nervous about his feedback as he is so incredibly passionate and defensive of Ford. With praise for Scott Eyman (who blurbed) and Joe McBride, both towering Ford experts, I can now rest easy.

90s horror movie soundtrack vibes before trick or treating with the kiddo. Happy to be in a neighborhood that does this at night, on Halloween. Growing up, it was always on a Sunday afternoon (dumb).

Horror fans of a certain age remember when and where they first saw Scream (1996). The opening scene changed us all forever...and took a page out of Hitchcock's playbook.

Still working through the Scream films along with reading the new cultural history of the franchise. The third installment is the silliest, but it's absolutely delightful.

Excited for @criterion.bsky.social's release of Captain Blood. Even more excited for @selfstyledsiren.bsky.social's essay and Alan Rode's commentary. Both of them enjoyed my bio on the Warner brothers, so maybe you will as well!
