As a reader, I'm fine with any level of spice; I just want it to fit the story. As a writer, I tend towards mild or no spice.

Red Right Hand tip-in pages waiting to be signed whenever my hand feels up to holding a pen again! 😅

Once these are done, they'll be shipped back to the printer to be included in the binding of the RRH special edition hardcovers, assuming the forthcoming Kickstarter campaign funds. 🥳

As the designated mediator for San Diego, John is expected to keep the peace and find common ground between the city's many different supernatural species. It doesn't always (or maybe even often?) go well, even before you add ancient blood feuds into the mix.

It's by no means a traditional romance for a lot of reasons, but I always recommend the K-drama Hotel Del Luna for a moving treatise on love, death, and letting go.

Saturday snippet from Godswar, with some black bars to mask spoilers... even if they won't stay spoilers for more than two chapters.

"The time for fear is over. Come rage with me."

A storm of steel, wrapped in a shell of human flesh.
A teenage warlord, bent on domination.
A rural town, burned to the ground with no survivors.

There will be vengeance, and it will be bloody.

"I was having a pretty good day until the crab men tried to kill me."

John Smith, small-time private investigator, finds himself in way, way, waaaaaaaaaay over his head when he's forced to mediate for San Diego's supernatural community.

I don't tend to read books multiple times these days, so I wouldn't say I have any comfort reads.

I do read a lot of popcorn fare while working on a WIP though because I don't want my brain to be too engaged to keep it from plotting out the next chapter at the same time.

😬

Let's just say there's a lot of death in book 6 for what has to this point been a comedic urban fantasy series and some of those deaths are going to hit harder than others. There's also a big change to a beloved character. 😣

The whole WIP is a tonal tightrope so far.

Huge thanks to @chuckwendig.bsky.social for this. When I read that "who's going to win the race" comment I was so angry. These fucking shitgibbons churning out "content". These cockweasels stealing everything we've done. I was so mad. So thanks, Chuck, for writing exactly what I wanted to say.

Whoops. Looks like I answered Day 10 yesterday, so I'll answer Day 9 today. It's been a hard year already. 😅

John wants to be known as a good person who helps make things better and not the walking disaster vector so much of the supernatural community sees him as.

Because we're on book 6, the love story of this WIP has long since been established. Now, John and Ana are dealing with newer issues, like an impossible pregnancy and the metaphysical challenges of their relationship, complicated by Lucia's presence and past actions.

The Super Bowl is chock full of AI ads and, from the bottom of my heart, I hope every single company humoring this shit goes bankrupt in glorious fashion, and that the marketing firms responsible for pitching this fuck-awful slop spends the rest of their miserable days fighting off lawsuits.

To be fair, we watched the replay of the men's slopestyle qualifiers (skiing) on Peacock and that commentator was much more informative.

Of course, then they cut the stream before the qualifiers finished. I'm not sure the point of offering each event individually if you don't show the whole thing.
Watching the big air snowboarding finals replay in the Olympics and trying not to be annoyed that they keep skipping people with commercials. Also, I'm sure the US color commentator was a good snowboarder but after two events of this, I feel like I know less about the sport for listening.
