Gavin Newsom has been California’s best housing governor ever -- SB 79 will make or break that legacy. @gavinnewsom.bsky.social
✍️ SIGN SB 79 IN FULL ✍️

Call Assemblymember Zbur to tell him you can’t have it both ways: you can’t “fight for climate action” and vote No on transit-oriented development + the most impactful climate bill of the decade. Shame on @asmrickzbur.bsky.social!

🏛️ Capitol: (916) 319-2051
🌴 District: (323) 436-5184
PASSED THE ASSEMBLY - SB 79 (WIENER) will build a ton more housing near transit!!!

My new op-ed ✍️

My state legislators @benallenca.bsky.social & Rick Zbur built careers as environmental leaders. But by siding with NIMBYs against SB 79—the biggest housing + climate bill of the decade—they'll throw away their legacy.

Op/Ed: Sen. Allen and Asm. Zbur Will Destroy Their Environmental Legacy By Opposing SB 79 - Santa Monica Next

A truly historic day in California: a clean CEQA exemption for environmentally friendly infill housing has just passed the California legislature via the budget bill!

No other way to put it: this is the most transformative positive shift in land use policy in this state of the last 50 years!

The impossible has become possible: we've passed a clean CEQA infill exemption. This is probably the most important thing California has done on housing in the present YIMBY moment.

Worse yet, most of this CEQA litigation had little to do with the environment. A huge share of it focuses on infill housing, infill jobs and schools, transit expansions and bicycle lanes, etc. All stuff we know to be unambiguously good for the environment.

I'm deeply saddened to share that Donald Shoup passed away last night. He was the ideal academic—curious, methodical, and concerned with turning ideas into real-world change. TAing his parking course these past few years has one of the greatest honors of my life. Rest in peace, Shoup Dogg.

Excited to share my OpEd in Rafu Shimpo, LA's Japanese American newspaper! 📰✍️

Fierce debate rages over building new housing in LA’s historic Japanese neighborhoods—Little Tokyo + Sawtelle. As part of the JA community, I wanted to challenge the loud anti-housing voices.

Nate argues year-round Daylights Savings Time is superior to year-round Standard Time but downplays revealed preferences: we tried permanent DST before, and people hated it (winter 8am+ sunrises suck). Meanwhile, some states have happily stuck with ST for decades.

In Jan 2022, over 🌮s, Jason & I kicked off a project on sequential media selection. A theory article (doi.org/10.1093/hcr/...) laid the foundation. Now, a new preprint using real-world data, careful experimentation, & computational modeling shows how curiosity modulates exploration. Way to go Jason!
