Today's Gardening Advice: If you're looking to grow your first edible perennial, I always recommend rhubarb. Super easy to grow in a sunny spot with rich soil. Add lots of compost to the soil when planting. Some varieties go dormant in heat. 🌱

Rhubarb, Rheum rhabarbarum
Rhubarb is the first "fruit" of the season - used as a fruit, but grows like a vegetable. This old fashioned perennial is very easy to grow. To learn more about rhubarb, read this article...

This afternoon I'll be sowing two batches of salad leaves in the greenhouse-one pot of spicy, one of mild. The seeds cost less than a couple of bags of salad leaves from the supermarket, and it means we can eat really fresh home-grown salad all year round.

I've been so busy in the garden I've hardly been on social media for days. We had snow this morning and it's bitter here in Gloucestershire, but that hasn't stopped the hellebores. This is an Ashwood hybrid. It came from a packet of "spotted" seeds.

I need your suggestions, please! I've got some book money and can't decide where to spend it.
What new-release romance do you recommend? I don't mind if it's historical or contemporary, holiday-themed or not.

Yes, I know it's only 21st November, but here's some good news for lovers of classic children's fiction. The BBC is going to screen The Box of Delights, to celebrate what was at the time the most expensive Children's TV production. www.radiotimes.com/tv/fantasy/b...

This is a great idea - I do the same with Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles (although that's non-fiction).
