Sacred spaces can cause trauma both by their words and actions, AND by their silence and compliance with systems of injustice and oppression.

In these dark, divided days resistance is in the small things. Beauty is resistance. Joy is resistance. Rest is resistance. Friendship is resistance. Community is resistance. Find ways to care for yourself, your people, and your soul in the face of constant triggers. ❤️

Stop. We're not rioting here in Los Angeles. Trump isn't removing criminals. He's scooping up our friends and neighbors and denying them due process. We're protecting them with our bodies and making it difficult for ICE to commit these crimes. There is a difference.

My whole heart and mind are with those peacefully protesting for justice, dignity, and due process in Los Angeles tonight. 💔

One of the greatest deceptions of our time is the false narrative that we should be more concerned about a poor person misusing the welfare system or an immigrant being here illegally than we are about the ultra wealthy abusing the system and cruel people having unchecked power over all of us.

Why growing up in a faith-filled home can be traumatic for some: "Many highly religious parents sanctify their role as parents... they see parenting as a sacred duty, with religious beliefs and values as among the most important... to be transmitted..." via The Psychology of Religion Textbook pg 117

15,000 Churches Will Close This Year. Each Is an Opportunity to Spark Community.
In Appalachia, a church donated its building to 30 community organizations — one example of how faith-based organizations are transforming their spaces to meet the needs of their communities.

YES!!!!!! I saw this everyday doing work with the unsheltered in the Bible belt. Almost every unhoused youth I worked with was queer and forced to leave their living situation out of judgement and rejection clothed in "tough love" language. Disgusting!

Grateful for your voice in this issue!
This Pride Month, we Christians must reckon with one way we have caused and perpetuated the crisis of youth homelessness: by exiling our LGBTQIA+ children.

Last year, I wrote this open letter to those who do so.
I fear it's even more relevant this year.

Happy Pride Month, Y'all! May all feel seen, loved, valued, and accepted for who they are. May all find places and people who make them feel safe and comfortable to be themselves each day! May all feel the voices and actions of many continuing to call for justice in the face of cruel policies. 🏳️‍🌈

Yakima ends up on federal list of 'sanctuary' cities, though county doesn't
The Yakima City Council has never voted to make the city a “sanctuary city.” In 2017, the Yakima City Council voted against a “welcoming city” resolution.
