I keep thinking about what we lost because of billionaire interventions on other platforms.

Like, despite the icky algorithms and suppression, I think I had a degree of optimism about our ability to overcome that (because we didn't really have a choice).

This is another thing people don’t realize about staying on X. Musk purposefully destroyed networks between activists & journalists, making it harder to work together.

Social media can be an incredible tool when it’s not controlled by fascist billionaires. It once helped start the Arab Spring.
I still think it's great that bluesky has incentivized blocking and disengagement from toxic content and accounts. When a platform incentivizes hairy conversation and community instead of engagement for ad revenue, amazing things start to happen.
