If anyone is at #HALCON this weekend, stop by the @writersfedofns.bsky.social table and grab their zine. I have a fun little story in it. I believe it will also be made freely available on their website for a limited time.

Happy to share that the third paper from my PhD is now published! We estimated remote sensing-derived forest structural and functional integrity on Vancouver Island and examined the influence of anthropogenic pressure on these metrics. Open access here: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

There’s something that just seems appropriate about a team with the most come from behind victories in the season, falling behind 2-0 in the series, coming back and pushing to game 7, falling behind in game 7 and then getting the late lead. Fun, wild game.

Sigh. www.saltwire.com/nova-scotia/....

“We don’t have endless pockets.”

Maybe not, but you do appear to be contributing to past provincial surpluses by flatlining transfers or citing “increases” well under inflation. Eroding investment has led to the present crisis, and poor labour relations.
Nova Scotia universities required to justify each program for continued funding as international student enrollment drops
N.S. academia is facing a potential shakeup as the provincial government demands universities review and justify each of their programs.

Reading this release (www2.acadiau.ca/about-acadia...) makes me even more angry at the process we just endured. Acadia demonstrated both sides can commit to not only maintaining relationships but strengthening them. For me, relationships feel fractured and repair will take time.

A wee thread 🧵: Everyone I spoke to at Dalhousie today was upset by the president’s “short Friday note”: faculty, staff, students, unionized or no.

The main reason? 1/6

It's interesting that anyone would be surprised by this. They are large language models, not large fact models. They are very good at language; it's unsurprising that they aren't terribly good at facts.

In the 2015-2016 academic year I taught 10 courses as a CUPE3904 sessional lecturer at TMU (formerly Ryerson). I came to Dalhousie on a 50% FTE limited term appointment and was taken aback at how far behind the local @cupe3912.bsky.social stipends were compared to 3904. 1/2

Maybe that Guidance assist did the trick.
Come on board, this lawful neutral party vs. the lawful evil BBEG trope is getting old. Be a more complex character, tag back in, and get this done.

(fingers crossed I roll a nat 20 on persuasion … but the DM wouldn’t give me advantage on the roll either)
