Emilios was a gifted academic, a good friend and an enormous support to me through my PhD (including as internal examiner) and early career. A sad, terrible, loss.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Lord Wallace. Jim was a lovely man who welcomed me to his home in Orkney, and with whom I drank too much whisky several times, while putting the world to rights.

Hear, hear. An extraordinary career and about the nicest man you could ever meet.
Really sad to learn of this. Jim was a really kind man. Generous with his time, and driven by duty. Steely in an understated way. A real loss.

I came across Jim in several capacities. Political. Legal. Spiritual. Academic. Always unfailingly decent and fair minded. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Two things stand out about this picture:

1. a political leader embracing rather than demonising asylum seekers;

2. the beautiful clothes the Afghan girls are wearing, and which they are free to show in public.
It’s not where we come from that counts, it’s about where we’re going.

Great to meet Afghan Scots children at Maryhill Burgh Halls and hear a lovely rendition of Robert Burns.

Very in keeping with the hormonal teenager on too much red bull tone of anonymous briefings from Labour over the last year.

An absolute golden rule that anyone who says “the grown ups are back in the room” is fundamentally for the watching.
Whatever you think of these messages, the reality is this story and Paul Ovenden's subsequent resignation has provoked pure fury from long-serving Labour aides. Many saying they do not believe Starmer should have accepted his resignation.
