So yeah, Interrail isn’t just for gap-year backpackers.
It’s a vibe.
It’s affordable.
It’s flight-free travel done right.

Plan your route, pack snacks, charge your phone, and just enjoy the view. 🌍

You don’t need to fly to see Europe.
Seriously.
Trains can take you everywhere and it’s way cheaper (and greener) than you think.
Let’s talk about Interrail. #SustainableTravel #Interrail #SlowTravel #ClimateCrisis

@nedboulting.bsky.social NSF podcast catchup at end of 3 week interrail/ biking trip in ITA/SLO. Listening to Dauphiné St 8 Übermensch pod the perfect companion for a 'slow' efficient TER train journey from Strasbourg- Metz. A region of 🇫🇷 that i don't know but looks verdant & ripe for future trips.

If you run along the trails of our uplands then it is important to understand the landscape through which you move & how man’s management impacts its ability to act as a carbon sink.

Our national parks are not as healthy as you might think.

Important thread 👇🏻
1. This is Piles Copse, the largest remaining fragment of high-ground temperate rainforest on Dartmoor. It’s a tiny speck of green in a dismal, human-made desert. Prepare yourselves for a story of breathtaking perversity, told in this thread. (There’s a one-page version at the bottom). 🧵

Labour’s great nature sellout is the worst attack on England’s ecosystems I’ve seen in my lifetime | George Monbiot
The horrifying planning bill, which rips up environmental protections, was drafted with CEOs in mind. We know because Keir Starmer told us, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

What a brilliant mens De Ronde. Impressive performances from many of the top riders contributing to fastest race ever. As @cilliankelly.bsky.social wrote. 'This is the first time that three former (or current) world champions have finished 1-2-3 in a Monument Classic since the 1967 Paris-Roubaix'!

As @mitchelldickau.bsky.social notes, carbon released from the lithosphere (fossil fuels) cannot be compensated by carbon taken up in the biosphere (trees, plants, etc). Sadly this scam is widespread; it needs to be called out on every occasion.
1/3 Another study showing why nature-based carbon removal, in which the duration of removal may only be years to decades at worst, should not be used to offset fossil emissions.
Our latest research estimates that almost 40 percent of California’s forest offset buffer pool has been lost to wildfire. That’s roughly twice as many credits than have been set aside to address wildfire risks for the next 100 years. (1/4) 🧪https://doi.org/10.1111/gcb.17599

This is unbelievably and horribly shocking.

280 million acres = 1.13 million square kilometres, which is:

11.5% of the USA

33% of USA's forest cover

64-91% of USA’s national forest + protected public land area (exact figure depending on how much protected public land is also national forest)
And now this…👇

Angry yet?!

This. Once. Great. Country. Is. Weeping. ✨

Our planet is burning and our banks are fuelling the fire.

UK high-street banks Barclays, HSBC, Santander, NatWest and Lloyds have funded fossil fuels with $556 billion since 2016.

It’s time to go green. Switch to Starling, Nationwide or Triodos.
