First of all, I have fairly fond memories of some mid to late 80’s music. Mostly tied to movie soundtracks I guess.

I spent 80% of the time watching this video tryna convince myself the lead singer was Trent, and then “oh, ok, that makes sense”.

The song slaps tho!

Ok. I am a mere hockey fan. I do not know the ins and outs of managing an NHL team. That being said, I do have an opinion based on my observations. So here it goes (it’s a doozy): as if maybe the season after last, I don’t think there’s such a thing as a “generational player”. Here’s why. 🧵

I just lost my job, along with most of my coworkers, due to the illegal grant freeze.
I worked at an organization that
-helped veterans who have lost a limb
-Assisted elderly and disabled people

Today I counted more than 50 subreddits that went through with banning links from X, reaching more than 40 million combined members. At least 20 million of those members were encouraged to join Bluesky, instead.

More than 50 Reddit communities ban X links to protest Musk
The cascade of link bans came after Musk made a hand gesture at a Monday rally that many compared to a Nazi salute, which many cited in their protests, among other things.

Since early adulthood, I've always felt that cooking was accessible for me, but I know that's not true for everyone. And even tho I'm not terrible at it, some days I dread cooking for the family. Here's a good article that can help you get over those mental hurdles: www.npr.org/2025/01/18/n...
Hate cooking? 3 mindsets to make it less of a chore
Even if you dislike cooking, you still have to eat every day. Here's how to gain more confidence in the kitchen and think outside the box when it comes to meal prep.

#protip -when a ban on anything digital is announced, don't act like you're destitute/blindsided/betrayed. As soon as you heard, you should have:
- backed up your content/data
- found an alternative to either mirror your content or
- plan on switching to something more stable
- every time it happens

This girl is going to be 15 this year. She's a bit slower, can't jump, eats the dogfood as well as her own food. She has also turned into this lovely, friendly, purring, kind cat that happened over time.

Do you remember when Microsoft had a funeral for the iPhone? I didn't. @codeman.bsky.social reminded me though of how I actually liked the Windows Phone, but maybe didn't like the grandstanding (I remember the phone but not the gimmick) www.cnet.com/pictures/mic...

Fascinating! And kinda scary... glad it wasn't a busy playground or downtown!
I am very very jealous that this family on Prince Edward Island (Canada) had a small meteor hit their sidewalk and managed to catch it on their door cam in what is likely the first audio and visual recording of a meteor strike!

Cool link aggregator Sill for Bluesky (and Mastodon...) that grabs links from accounts you follow. I haven't tried it yet. More info here:

@paulbellows.bsky.social you might find this interesting!
Remember Nuzzel? A similar news-aggregating tool now exists for Bluesky
The creator of Sill says "the death of the link" has had disastrous consequences for journalism, art, and the web. His free social media tool entered public beta on Friday.

Shutter counts on cameras are one of the few ways to estimate wear and tear beyond visual investigation of the camera body itself. Although max actuations (shutter presses) can vary wildly from entry level to pro cameras, a camera will likely last longer than the max count. A thread.

Do I want BlueSky to be a meaningful Social Media destination?

Or should Social Media exist at all?

Do I want a place like Twitter used to be?

Or for the internet to find the new-but-similar version of Ev's Blogger?

Just some existential nerd questions on a gloomy Monday.

Shout out to cafune.ca - really cool little coffee boutique site I found when I couldn't source Chemex filters locally. They shipped quickly from out east, their free shipping threshold is surprisingly low, and check out this little hand written note. After the day I had, this is nice. Thanks Matt!

Apple to introduce new, bolstered privacy changes for iOS 17. marketingcube.com.au/2023/07/appl...

The TL;DR - they're starting with Hubspot trackers. We all believe this is just the first step, and will likely expand to Oracle, Salesforce etc.
