Probably need to digest the #drwho finale for a few days before settling on a concrete opinion but:

1) it's time for some new writers to run the show. Ones who grew up with modern Who.

2) I think the preoccupation with its own lore is actively harming the show. Only ruin down that road.

Godzilla Vs Kong is my 30th movie of the year, and I'm not sure if that's an ignoble honour.

It is a Saturday morning cartoon that cost $200 million, with such a breathtaking lack of curiosity about its subject matter the only thing you can do is turn your brain off and stare at the bright lights.

When liberals say the economy is good they mean growth, line go up stuff (symbolic measurements of prosperity). When socialists say economic hellscape they mean cost of living, where do the profits of growth go (material conditions).

I think people are talking about two different things.
What's happening with the left and the economy, by they way, is not "There are different perspectives and the truth is in the middle." It's that they, like a cult, have built a group identity around a false belief that we live in an economic hellscape, and now must police that belief

Tiberius and Sejanus if they were the two least cool people on the planet.
This reads like the opening paragraph of a novel so bleakly dystopian you'd put it down after five pages

The Republican Party has dared to ask what if America was run by an army of G Gordon Liddys?

Is it actually true that NFL teams aren't allowed to have Bluesky accounts because the league has a deal with X?

If any contrarians want to know how a Trumpist oligarchy is different from what existed before, I might look into that and what it says about how power now works in America.

One type of person on here sneering at anyone saying "they can't do that, it's against the constitution".

Another type clapping back that the first type is nihilistic & self defeating.

I think it's important we're ready to oppose fascist tactics, or else we'll be shocked into submission.

Remake of Captain America: The Winter Soldier but instead of whispering, Garry Shandling's character screams "Hail Hydra" to a hyped crowd of racists.

My new year's resolution has already begun to suffer from mission creep. It started out as watching one film a week I haven't seen before.

It is now the 2025 film-o-thon, where I obsessively watch films from 2023 & 2024 and I'm not allowed to watch anything I've ever watched before.

Thanks brain.

My immediate thoughts on having watched The Fabelmans for the first time is that when Hollywood finally decides to make a definitive Spielberg biopic it's going to have to work very hard.

New Year's resolution for the hell year that will be 2025:

1. I want to start writing and posting serialised fiction. I just need to iron out the logistics of where and when.

2. I'll watch one film a week I haven't seen before.

Rewatching Fellowship of the Ring today hammered home how much of your 30s is realising you weren't nearly as clever as you thought you were in your 20s.

25 year old Chris thought he knew exactly why that film was great. Turns out he missed a few things.

Does anyone else wonder if Santa in Christmas movies is actually a bad dude? In Red One, Christmas Chronicles etc he's turned the North Pole into an industrial juggernaut. With that level of manufacturing capacity he could end world poverty, but he chooses only to make toys.
