New podcast, episode 236, "Capitol Conspiracy" with screenwriter Richard Pierce.

We get stuck in on this Don "the Dragon" Wilson classic, but beforehand we talk about Rich's experiences as a screenwriter, and the good ol' days of taping movies like these on cable.

Watched GOLD RAIDERS (1982) the 7️⃣0️⃣4️⃣th film I've seen with an exploding helicopter.
🚁💥📽️
This is a strange film that jackknifes between quirky entertainment and utter tedium. In addition to an exploding helicopter, Robert Ginty gets to utter the immortal line 'We got company'.

I had a look at the data and here are the European countries that have never made a film with an exploding helicopter.
- Greece
- Finland
- Estonia
- Latvia
- Slovakia
- Serbia
- Bosnia
- Slovenia
- Croatia
- Albania
- North Macedonia
- Montenegro

We got one! THE TERRORISTS (1986) aka Menumpas Teroris becomes the 9️⃣3️⃣3️⃣rd film we've found with an exploding helicopter.

This is an Indonesian action film. There's undubbed, unsubtitled version on YouTube. It looks very entertaining, if you like model work, back projection, and wild overacting.

Without doubt, the highlight of every Kojak episode is the very particular way Telly Savalas says, "Crocker".

Watched THE LOST BUS (2025) There's a jarring moment in the film where Matthew McConaughey tells us that he's 44 years old. As we know, Matt is closer to 60 than he is 40 so it immediately took me out of the film - especially as there's no need for him to be specific about his age.

Watched CARRINGTON VC (1954) an absorbing, low key, courtroom drama with David Niven fighting to save his army career. Among the cast is Laurence Naismith. He was only 46 at the time, but still manages to look at a decade older. Did he ever look young in anything?

Watched RELAY (2024). The first half or even two-thirds of this thriller is very enjoyable. However, that just makes the routine last act feel more disappointing than it actually is. All the intriguing elements which drew you in disappear and you get some bog standard chase scenes.
