My notes on Trans World Entertainment’s slight but fun Terminator riff, PROGRAMMED TO KILL (1987) (aka ‘The Retaliator’).

Given how frequently you hear it said in American cop movies, I'm surprised no one has yet made a film called Exigent Circumstances.

Watched BACKLASH (1956) ticked off another Widmark and also a John Sturges film I've not seen. This is an action and plot packed film - perhaps a little too much at times as some story elements could've been clearer. But this was as quality horse opera.

On a Richard Widmark kick at the moment so watched THE FROGMEN (1951) and ALVAREZ KELLY (1966). Frogmen's a pretty standard war film and Kelly's a pretty standard western. Not sure why I've developed this Widmark fascination. I would never say he's a great actor, but he's incredibly watchable.
