🧵 But since Head Start's inception, there have been disagreements about whether or not the program "works." So let's review what we know from rigorous research on Head Start's effectiveness, and let's start with what it means for the program to work. 🧵 1/n

Hey #econsky! I'm organizing a workshop at Brown this Spring in partnership with Eric Nielsen and Viviana Rodriguez.

The topic is educational measurement. Please submit a paper/extended abstract! We'd love to consider your work.

And please help us spread the word to folks who aren't on bluesky!

Toss in some hand, foot & mouth, and let's just throw in the towel on 2025...
Things can be looking pretty bleak in the world, and then you get an email from your kid's school that there's a confirmed case of head lice in their grade, and you realize, it can actually be bleaker, more bleak, the bleakest.

Can I just say that 👏 this 👏 is 👏 not 👏 it?

A policy that simultaneously devalues caregiving by suggesting one can do their job alongside providing care and devalues (mostly women's) work by implying one can easily manage care responsibilities while getting work done.

But you see, you need the “jobs in” part
FOX: Year to date job cuts are up 54%. That seems like a troubling number. What's your take?

HASSETT: The flow of jobs in & out is a little higher, there's a little more turnover. A lot of times that can happen because people feel like they're actually able to get another job if they leave this one

That moment when people realize that the thumb was often on the scale for white men at elite institutions in the before times…
Brown University accepted nearly equal numbers of male and female students, but got almost twice as many female applicants. That math meant it was easier for men to get in.

Trump's DEI ban may end gender balancing efforts that often benefit men.
Trump’s attack on DEI may hurt college men, particularly White men
The Trump administration’s ban on diversity, equity and inclusion also targets gender. The ban may impact gender balancing practices that often benefit college men.

Gone are the days when every fact and data point in senior staff members’ talking points had to be triple-checked and correct.

nb: those days were really not so long ago, somewhat shockingly
HASSETT: Gas prices dropped below $2 a gallon in a lot of places

CORDES: Gas prices on average are still at $3 a galloon

HASSETT: For a few states they got below $2
