6) ALMOST FINISHED: White Tears / Brown Scars by Ruby Hamad. Will write this up separately when I finish it. This is a must-read for yt ppl. "Reveals how white feminism has been used as a weapon of white supremacy and patriarchy deployed against Black and Indigenous women, and women of color."

5) The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. CW: suicidal ideation. Nora Seed does not want to live. She decides to die, and instead lands in a library made up of the stories of all the lives she could have lived had she made different choices. Exciting, interesting, and hopeful. 9/10

4) The Witches Are Coming by Lindy West. A wildly poignant and politically relevant collection of essays exploring feminism, social media, comedy, and the #MeToo movement, which was happening at the time it was penned. Hilarious. Frighteningly apropos for the current time. Highly recommend. 10/10

3) The Last White Man by
Mohsin Hamid. An emotional opportunity to explore the complexities of racism as yt ppl begin transforming into ppl with dark skin. Chaos ensues as society is challenged by the changes. Poor reviews due to the lyrical prose/run-on paragraphs, but I LOVED IT. 10/10

2) The Strange Library by
Haruki Murakami. An illustrated short novel about a boy who becomes imprisoned in a terrifying library and what he must do in his attempts to survive and escape. I read this to begin acquainting myself with the author before I dive into the 1Q84 series. 7/10

The five books: 1) The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley. Contemporary mystery thriller about Jess, who intends to visit her brother in his swanky Parisian apt, only to find him missing and that his building and its inhabitants are hiding secrets. Secrets she must uncover to find her brother. 4.5/5

Super pleased to state that I'm about to finish my fifth book in the month of January. Limiting SM, utilizing my library & Libby, and participating in StoryGraph's January reading challenge have all played a role in my success. This month has been stressful AF, so reading has been my respite.

Important information for folks looking to participate in the resistance. The Chenowith Study found that successful uprisings required about 3.5% of the population. There are ways you can help. Mutual aid is imperative. Learn from those who came before you to limit harm.

i think the executive orders directing agencies to end energy efficiency regulations and open up more land to drilling and mining is so indicative of the character of the american right — in its view everything, whether people or our larger environment, is something to be exploited and dominated
