It’s College Night at the DBAP. Wool E. Bull, Rameses, the NCCU Eagle, and Mr & Ms Wuf all introduced. But no mention or appearance by the Blue Devil. Did my heart good that in Durham tonight, they had to pretend like Duke University doesn’t even exist. @carolinainsiderpod.bsky.social

Chapel Hill friends, prepare to be jealous. It was a well-spent summer in my sewing room. Can’t get this on Franklin Street!

Today we conducted Stop The Bleed training (hemorrhage control) with an energetic group of UNC Naval ROTC students. A delightful afternoon—but also a sobering reminder that they deserve competent professional military leaders; and elected officials who won’t put them in harm’s way recklessly.

Running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler in DC this morning, and had trouble sleeping just from the excitement. But when I woke up and saw this news, I realized that somehow I must have already known another reason to be happy. Always a GDTBATH!

Wiki tells me it’s a few days past, but saw this at the James Taylor Bridge this morning, which goes over Morgan Creek of Copperline fame. (15-501 at Culbreth Rd, Chapel Hill). Saw him at Wolftrap in September, and he’s still terrific.

Back in the day, during the tourney the best teachers rolled in the TV on a cart. But now we watch at Town Hall, and see what kind of specially designed burger or wings the team has concocted. Don’t worry— the Mando Burger is still available. Go Heels!

Useful to watch this longer exchange vs snippets on the news. Zelenskyy simply pointed out Ukraine needs assurances that Russia won’t break any ceasefire as they had before. It’s behavior like this from Trump, and now Vance that is embarrassing, and makes allies distrust us.

In honor of tonight’s snow game, reposting from 2014, when Duke somehow couldn’t make it to play us, but I walked home 3 miles from UNC Hospitals. Regrettably, I ruined my nice boots in the process, but it was better than sleeping on the floor in my office x.com/chcurran/sta...

Can’t quite get there myself from DC (Deep Chatham), but this makes me so happy for students!
No ticket is required, and there is open seating for tonight's N.C. State at #UNC game that promises to have a student-heavy crowd and a big home-court advantage for the Tar Heels, much like the 2020 snow game against Maryland. tarheeltribune.com/2...

Sincere question: *Seven* UNC players out today due to portal entry or opting out. I know this isn’t isolated to UNC. But why don’t bowl organizers/NCAA put minimum player numbers in contract, so we can see the teams that actually qualified? Yes, money etc. But one more reason to prefer hoops 🏀

Belichick, “whose sideline couture seems to be inspired by hobos”—a fine bit of writing. Fun story!
What's up with Bill Belichick's style? We asked Alexander Julian.
The legendary designer with a landmark store in Chapel Hill shares his thoughts on UNC's new football coach, who's best known for wearing a ratty-looking hoodie on the sidelines.

So I have my concerns about this hire, but in the silver linings department, at least it’s distracting me from politics. And NYT/ The Athletic gave some recognition to carolinainsider.bsky.social for their recent interview with Bubba. So those are some wins.
Bill Belichick agrees to deal to become UNC football head coach
Belichick, a six-time Super Bowl winner with the New England Patriots, will return to the sideline in the college ranks.

I prize UNC academics and reputation first and foremost. Am I the only person who fears that more attempts to be a Football School will escalate the sports spending race, and risk lower standards for individual and program integrity? No hate toward Belichick or anyone else. I hope to be wrong.
