New intro time, I think! Depending on where I am in my hobby-hopping cycle, I'll be posting about:

• Programming
• Video games
• Board games

• DIY
• 3D Printing
• Electronics
• Films
• Books

Assorted favs/genres/etc: Go, FFXIV, Warframe, Cakes, Obsession, Sci-fi, Horror, LitRPG

I don't like posting every time I make a new blog post, as it feels a bit spammy. So I've made a separate account to do the spam for me: @posts.chameth.com!

Figuring out how to poke the PDS from scratch was a bit harder than it probably should be (I'm about to close 16 different tabs...)

I couldn't be bothered spending 20 minutes writing some boring, personal-use-only code. So I spent 20 minutes waiting for an LLM, then another 20 minutes tidying up the slop until I was happy with it. Efficiency++

I’ve had the vague outline of a blog post about LLMs vs social contracts in my head for a while, but this doc basically covers all of my points in a much more approachable way than my rambling likely would have
this is one of the more thoughtful and balanced things i've read about LLMs in a while!

it hits a lot of my feels about social dynamics and use within a team.

I'm a bit late posting, but I'm doing this year's Advent of Code in Rust! Horrible, nasty Rust to try and squeeze out every bit of performance.

My solutions are here: github.com/csmith/aoc-2...

I'll thread comments on individual days

A neat little quiz game: Is a headline homophobia from the 80s-90s or transphobia from the 2010s-2020s? Because it's all the same bullshit, repackaged for the hate du jour

Have I Got Phobia For You
Bringing attention to the often harmful practices of our mainstream media. Thankfully the days of vile hostility against gay people are now more or less over, but, reading today’s newspapers, there’s ...

I legitimately didn't know they were competing with Steam and it's crazy to me that they burnt so much money on what sounds like something with very little (or wildly misguided) market research.

Me, waking up a muddy slope: “You’ll catch me if I fall, right?”

Literally five seconds later I’m down on hands and knees in the mud and stinging nettles.

Small consolation: my walking partner also went down so wasn’t able to record any of it.

it's kinda weird that all the software i am expected to use for work are all written by distributed teams, go, python, postgres, linux, chrome, k8s etc

and despite being told "the best teams work in an office together" i don't know of any software i use that's actually written that way

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Made a little app that transforms all the album art for my music so it looks like it's in a CD jewel case. It makes me irrationally happy.

Last week I decided I couldn't really tell the difference between a high-quality flac and an 128kbps MP3, so I transcoded all my music to save a load of disk space.

Mistake.

It's painfully obvious whenever there's any treble. Now I'm slowly re-importing everything in higher quality.
