This Kangaroo Island sea lion’s face sums up my feelings on a Monday in early January. #wildoz 🦘

One of my favourite things about camping on Kangaroo Island was being visited by goannas every day. Absolutely stunning animals. #wildoz 🦘

Just got back from two weeks in South Australia, mostly Kangaroo Island. Prepare yourselves for a slew of sea lion photos!

I particularly love this one of mum and bub strolling along the beach. #wildoz

extremely amused and relieved to find someone else justifying their animal personality research in this way - in a peer reviewed journal too!

Pretty blue flower wasp (Austroscolia soror) I saw in the rain the other day. Never noticed one before but apparently they’re pretty common in Canberra! #wildoz

‘Spot’ the difference! Trying to figure out how many individual eastern quolls are around at my study site - each animal has a unique pattern of spots on its coat. #wildoz

Going out for a fieldwork/monitoring session tonight and I can never figure out how to manage my workload around it. When doing a 7 hr 'shift' overnight I feel like I should take it easy during the day, but then I struggle with not feeling productive during daylight hours...

This reminds me of when I was telling a friend about the fun I had on a recent my fieldwork day. She said, "Wow, it must be so great for your mental health." I said, "Yeah, aside from all the stuff dying and nobody caring."

Sat down to write a grant application and the first words out of my mouth were “ugh I hate this”. Am I a real researcher now?

Fieldwork outing with a friend for her research. We spent 1.5 hrs waiting for two brown snakes to emerge from this wombat burrow - sadly only one of them obliged us so she’ll have to go out again. Nice day for it though.

Pie in the sky idea but I wonder would it be possible to remove the “poison making” genes in a cane toad or make a “poison neutraliser” gene dominant and push it through the population some how? Just something i randomly ponder every now and then…

I can’t even imagine how frustrating it must be to be a herpetologist or invertebrate scientist. It’s hard enough getting people to care about issues that affect cute little mammals, let alone animals that people actively hate
