My auntie's house in the 70's, Gwendoline St, Liverpool.
She painted it herself with help from my uncle & dad.
It was known locally as the 'flower power house'. She also set up a boutique from inside the house which was famous globally. 🌸🌼

My grandad died on 5th Nov 1979, 2 weeks before I was born. He was an immigrant from Bengal and came to the UK after serving in the Merchant Navy.
He set up a lot of businesses & became a well respected member of the Toxteth community. 🖤

One Foot in the Grave really does get better with (my) age.
Just like Larry David, Victor says all the right things but with absolutely no tact. And it's wonderful.

A vault burial in St Patrick's Church, Liverpool.
Sadly didn't get to peek inside but just standing outside Peter Roberts vault felt eerie enough. He died in 1828.

I love the Victorian tradition of writing every known fact about the deceased on their gravestone.
This one from Toxteth Park Cemetery is no exception.
Plus the urn on top is just sublime. It blows my mind that sculpture has lasted 140 years! 🪦🖤⚱️

I always imagine how grand his funeral cortege must have been for someone so high ranking.

The hardback has a very effective bleak and chilly vibe, but the paperback with it's figure with menacing glowing red eyes is an all-time favourite.

This grave is in St Aidan's churchyard in Billinge.
I chatted with one of the staff at the church - he said the skull motif was thought to mark the grave out as the inhabitant having had cholera- it was a way to keep people away from it in case there were any germs lingering!
