Such a shame there isn't a real Christmas special for Early Doors or This Country. They'd be staple episodes for so many.
Is it too early to watch the Steptoe xmas specials? When they make the punch in the po - it's officially xmas! 🎄🎅

I can't click on any article about the Radiohead shows because I'm ragingly jealous and hate everyone who attended because it wasn't me. Evil. Sue me

A rich vein of Folk Horror ran all the way through WORZEL GUMMIDGE (1979). And one of its most horrific characters was Worzel's own creation: Dafthead!

My auntie's house in the 70's, Gwendoline St, Liverpool.
She painted it herself with help from my uncle & dad.
It was known locally as the 'flower power house'. She also set up a boutique from inside the house which was famous globally. 🌸🌼

My grandad died on 5th Nov 1979, 2 weeks before I was born. He was an immigrant from Bengal and came to the UK after serving in the Merchant Navy.
He set up a lot of businesses & became a well respected member of the Toxteth community. 🖤
Pic shows him locking up his coal yard.

My fave detail in the city centre.

This little porthole style detail above a doorway on Berry St. I look for it everytime I pass, just to make sure it's still there. 🪟

Little remnants like this make my heart sing.

One Foot in the Grave really does get better with (my) age.
Just like Larry David, Victor says all the right things but with absolutely no tact. And it's wonderful.
I always feel so sad coming to the last ep in a rewatch. It's such a joy. 🐢

Last day of #31daysofgraves .
A vault burial in St Patrick's Church, Liverpool.
Sadly didn't get to peek inside but just standing outside Peter Roberts vault felt eerie enough. He died in 1828.

Probably my fave name I've come across on a gravestone - Horatio Ruffley Roberts.
It even has a little carving of him, which is just so charming.
Another gem from St James' Cemetery.

Joseph William Leyland, a baby, buried at Toxteth Park Cemetery in 1863.
His father Joseph is listed as a naturalist. (Is it me or has the second 'A' in 'naturalist been corrected?)
Caroline, is also buried here. But no Joseph Sr. Maybe he's still alive! 🪦🖤

Good morning, readers.

I love the Victorian tradition of writing every known fact about the deceased on their gravestone.
This one from Toxteth Park Cemetery is no exception.
Plus the urn on top is just sublime. It blows my mind that sculpture has lasted 140 years! 🪦🖤⚱️

The first interment in Toxteth Park Cemetery, Liverpool.
Elizabeth Watling who died in 1856 at Wavertree.
I remember finding this stone for the first time, I've never seen one like it. But I suspect there may be a few out there!

Adam Sibbald was the assistant head constable of Liverpool in Victorian times. He died in 1885.
I always imagine how grand his funeral cortege must have been for someone so high ranking.
Please visit St James' Cemetery if you get the chance. It's truly magical ✨️

#PhantomsFriday A couple of fine cover artworks for editions of 'The Ghost Hunter's Road Book' by John Harries (L: 1968, R: 1974 revised edition).

The hardback has a very effective bleak and chilly vibe, but the paperback with it's figure with menacing glowing red eyes is an all-time favourite.

My 2nd fave grave in St James' Cemetery, Liverpool.
James Ramsay, who drowned in the river Mersey in 1842. He was a Merchant of Liverpool and just 25 when he passed. Bring back writing people's life story on their graves! 🖤🪦

This grave is in St Aidan's churchyard in Billinge.
I chatted with one of the staff at the church - he said the skull motif was thought to mark the grave out as the inhabitant having had cholera- it was a way to keep people away from it in case there were any germs lingering!
