I know some people have had problems accessing the discord servers we use for the UGMs, so I'm trying an experiment with setting up a Zulip server for the #RDKit.
If this works well, we can leave it up as an informal chat/discussion point for the community.

As a Brit expat in the States, it’s sad to see that access to the BBC News website is now paywalled. $90 a year!

Good idea mate...
Getting frustrated with the number of resources that disappear, change terms of use, etc. Seems cheeky that people publish in places like NAR Database with an 'open' resource, then flip to closed. Tempted to put together a table of all the NAR DB resources and plot existence/current license....

Enjoyable break visiting my friend and leading Mosel Winemaker Franz-Peter Schmitz from Römerhof in Riol. Great to catch up on the wine technology, commerce and biochemistry as well as socially. New post pending as a follow on from a past blog

Refreshing Midsummer's day swim at Naset. Finally warm enough to get to second jetty when it was so cold last month I could only just make the first. We'll see how many weeks it takes to extend my efforts to the third jetty (red on right) and eventually ~550 m to get across the inlet (lower left)

URGENT: FlyBase has lost practically all its funding overnight; even user fees are tied up in denied grant funding. 🤬🤯

Any lab using @flybase.bsky.social please donate using the link in post below.

This incredible community, on whose backs our #Drosophila labs depend, can't be left out to dry.
My lab studies bacterial infections. We spend a lot of time looking at (or for) species-specific genetic and genomic databases for hosts and microbes. FlyBase is the best of all—there is literally no comparison. Its existence is under threat. Please donate.
