The Anglican tradition, as I have received it: "the absolute priority of the Bible, a catholic loyalty to the sacraments, and a habit of cultural sensitivity and intellectual flexibility." ⚓

O Thou who art ever the same,
grant us so to pass through
the coming year with faithful hearts,
that we may be able in all things
to please Thy loving eyes;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

I admire the Dutch for many reasons, one of which is that they celebrate the New Year with doughnuts. I’ve taken a leaf out of their book, and so Oliebollen, the doughnuts in question, are #RecipeOfTheDay.

New Year Doughnuts - Oliebollen
You can’t set foot in the Netherlands in the festive period without encountering these Dutch doughnuts, even though it’s on New Year’s Eve that they are most traditionally eaten; indeed, it’s said tha...

Go on; have a read, it’s a lovely Christmas Eve tale.
The most stressed out I've ever been about Christmas was when I was 16 and I got my first ever job, working at M&S in Dundrum. As soon as I started I kept hearing these myths about the Christmas Eve Waste Sale, where all the food that wasn't sold on the 24th was marked down 90%.

Pastorally aware of those who have suffered great loss. Praying that they too will hear again the message of angels, and in heart and mind go even unto Bethlehem and see this thing which is come to pass, and the Babe lying in a manger.

Lord, in your mercy.

Today at our last Staff Meeting before Christmas we prayed for strength and endurance for our Staff and Clergy, and our printer and all musical instruments.

Eighteen years ago today, I was ordained a priest in Christ's one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.

Our then nine year old youngest lad was rather bored at the service, and doodled this pic of his newly ordained Pa ⚓️

Keep your head up, and your stick on the ice.

Grateful for our Bishop, who invited Diocesan Rector's to meet with him this morning. Learned that he's taken up ice skating, and is keen on building a backyard rink. I have good memories of our backyard rink before our lads headed off to college.

As we prepare to rejoice in the midst of fancies and fads of this world, under it all, behind it all, through it all is the revelation of God with us, of God’s kingdom...Happy are those servants, who no matter what time the master returns, finds them faithful.

Today some Anglicans celebrate the Conception of the BVM. I think the biblical narrative about the Mother of Our Lord is quite radiant as is. We do not need to make up additional teachings about Mary. But if you want to believe extra stuff, I’m not here to steal your joy! ⚓️

Even as the season outside gets more exuberantly festive, those who observe Advent...are convicted more and more each year by the truth of what is going on inside—inside the church as she refuses cheap comfort and sentimental good cheer. Advent begins in the dark.

You brood of vipers! Even now the axe is laid to the root of the trees! How would you like to get that on a Christmas card! But there it is, and this is John the Baptist’s day.

At the Rectory in this season of Advent, a Moravian star is shining in the darkness as we wait for the glory of the Lord to be revealed. 🕯️

Morning Star, my soul’s true light,
tarry not, dispel my night. . . .
Jesus mine, in me shine . . .
fill my heart with light divine.
