Up until today, I had little idea about Bourdieu's amazing photographies from his time as a soldier in colonized Algeria. Seen these at Kunsthalle Bielefeld, they're on exhibit until march 2026. It runs under the header of "gender, rule, and visuality".

The trope of prophetic/visionary philosophers is misleading to the extent that these never looked into the future but felt the deep layers of the fabric of their times. Hannah Arendt would have especially disliked such a characterization. Still interesting issue though!
